Set up Extra Utilities 2 on Minecraft
Install Extra Utilities 2 1.9.9 on a Forge 1.12.2 server from CurseForge, see what it adds and check the creative block options in its config file.
Extra Utilities is RWTema's collection of tools, machines and odd blocks. This guide covers Extra Utilities 2, whose newest file is tagged for Minecraft 1.12.2. It adds new blocks and items, so it must be installed on the server and on every player's game.
Checked against Extra Utilities 2 1.9.9 on Forge 1.12.2, October 2026.
Pick the version
Extra Utilities lives in one CurseForge project, and that project holds two generations of the mod. The original has a 1.7.10 file, extrautilities-1.2.12.jar, from October 2015. Extra Utilities 2 has files for 1.8.9 through 1.12.2, and the newest, extrautils2-1.12-1.9.9.jar, is from February 2019. It is a Forge mod, so it does not run on Paper, Purpur or Fabric. The file's own metadata lists Minecraft 1.12 and 1.12.1 as the versions it accepts, and CurseForge also tags it for 1.12.2. Forge's 1.12.x source widens that range to 1.12 through 1.12.2, so the file loads on a 1.12.2 server.
Extra Utilities 2 has no required library mods. If you want a current Minecraft version, Extra Utilities: Reutilized by WaveDK is a separate rewrite for NeoForge 1.21.1. It is a different mod with its own list of features, and this guide does not cover it.
Install it
- Open JAR Manager under More. Choose Forge under Server software and 1.12.2 under Minecraft version, then press Apply change. The panel picks Java 8 for you. Switching reinstalls the server and keeps your world, so make a backup first in the Backups tab.
- Open Mods under Content and select the CurseForge chip in the source chip row at the top of the tab. Set Game version to 1.12.2, search for
Extra Utilitiesand press Install on the result by RWTema. If the result only links to CurseForge, its author only allows downloads there: download the file from that page and upload it to themodsfolder with the File Manager. - Restart from the Console tab.
Open the Installed view afterwards. Extra Utilities 2 should be listed with no Failed to load badge. You can also upload extrautils2-1.12-1.9.9.jar into the mods folder with the File Manager or SFTP. Change your Minecraft version or mod loader has the full version steps.
Players need it too
Each player installs the same Extra Utilities 2 file for 1.12.2 in their launcher. Join a modded server from your launcher covers that side.
What it adds
The mod ships its own guide, the Extra Utilities 2 Manual, and its in-game text points players to it for details. The files include a Chunk Loading Ward, an Angel Block, Transfer Nodes for moving items and fluids, a Golden Lasso, a Wrench, a Builders Wand, a Destruction Wand and a Deep Dark Portal that leads to its own dimension. Take a backup before you hand the mod to players. If the server slows down once they start building, check the Console metrics, and Why is my server lagging? shows how to read them.
Settings
The mod keeps its settings in extrautils2.cfg in the config folder. Stop the server and edit it in the File Manager. The mod's code defines two options for creative-only blocks, "Creative Blocks: Breakable" and "Creative Blocks: Configurable". Both are off by default, so players who are not in creative mode cannot break or configure those blocks.
Common problems
- The server stops at startup: read the last lines of the Console. Fix mod and plugin errors on Minecraft covers reading the log.
- The mod does not show in the store: the Game version filter follows your server. Check it reads 1.12.2 and the CurseForge chip is selected.
- A config edit does nothing: the file is only read at startup, so restart after saving.
