Set up MrCrayfish's Gun Mod on Minecraft
Add MrCrayfish's Gun Mod 1.3.7 to a Forge 1.19.4 server with Framework from CurseForge, then tune griefing in the config and gun stats with datapacks.
MrCrayfish's Gun Mod adds nine firearms, scopes, grips and stocks to attach to them, nine enchantments, and grenades. It runs on Forge, and the server and every player need it plus a small library mod called Framework.
Checked against MrCrayfish's Gun Mod 1.3.7 on Forge 1.19.4, October 2026.
What you need
- Forge on Minecraft 1.19.2 or 1.19.4. The newest files on the mod's CurseForge page are version 1.3.7 for those two Minecraft versions, they are Forge builds, and the page lists no Fabric or NeoForge file. It has no file for Minecraft 1.20 or newer.
- Framework, version 0.6.16 or newer. The mod's page says Minecraft 1.18 and above need it, and the 1.3.7 file lists it as required on both sides.
- Java 17. JAR Manager shows "Runs on Java 17. We switch it for you." for 1.19.x, so there is nothing to set.
- The same mod and Framework on each player's computer. See Join a modded server from your launcher.
Switch the server to Forge 1.19.4
- Open JAR Manager (it sits under More in the left rail).
- Set Server software to Forge and Minecraft version to 1.19.4, then press Apply change.
- Leave Take a backup first ticked, press and hold Confirm & reinstall, and wait for the console to finish.
The warning on that screen says your world is kept but configuration files may be reset, so do this before you configure anything. More on the switch is in Change your Minecraft version or mod loader.
Install the mod
- Open the Mods tab under Content.
- In the source chip row at the top of the tab, press CurseForge, then search for MrCrayfish's Gun Mod. Pick the result by MrCrayfish. A separate project named "[Unofficial]" is a port by TachibanaSherry that lists Forge 1.20.1 and NeoForge 1.21.1 files. It has its own version numbers, and this guide does not cover it.
- Press Install. A window titled "Needs 1 more add-on" names Framework. Press Install all (2). The optional extras it may list stay unticked, and you can leave them that way.
- Go to Console and press Start. Accept the EULA prompt the first time.
Once it is running, type give YourName cgm:workbench in the Console to hand a player the crafting table the guns are made on. The pistol recipe in the mod's files takes 14 iron ingots, and give YourName cgm:pistol skips the crafting if you only want to test.
Change how it plays
- Weapon stats come from datapacks, not a config file. The mod's page says so, and the defaults sit in the jar under
data/cgm/guns/with one file per gun, such aspistol.json. Your own datapack goes in the world'sdatapacksfolder through the File Manager. The Datapacks tab only installs packs from Modrinth, so it will not help here. - Server rules live in
config/cgm-common.toml, written after the first start. Open it in the File Manager and press Edit. Under the griefing section, enableGlassBreakingandenableBlockRemovalOnExplosionsboth default totrue. Set either tofalse, press Save and restart.
The Export for players button on the Mods tab packs the mods your players need into one zip, so it can hand them both the gun mod and Framework in one file.
Common problems
- The server stops at start and names framework. Framework is missing. Open Mods, search CurseForge for Framework and install the newest file for your version.
- Players cannot join. Each player needs the Gun Mod and Framework too, and the 1.3.7 files list Framework as required on both sides. Fix the missing mods error walks through reading the error.
- You want Minecraft 1.20 or newer. There is no official build for it, so stay on 1.19.4 for this mod.
- The server will not start at all. Use the crash report guide to find the line that names the mod.
