Install the Cyclic mod on your server

Install Cyclic 1.14.2 on a NeoForge 1.21.1 server with the FLIB library the install window misses, then set command access in the config.

Updated 3 min read

Cyclic adds a large pile of unrelated items, tools, machines, enchantments and a few potions to Minecraft. It runs on Forge and NeoForge, and every player needs it on their own game too.

Checked against Cyclic 1.14.2 on NeoForge 1.21.1, October 2026.

What you need

  • NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1. Cyclic 1.14.2 asks for NeoForge 21.1.241 or newer. Pick 1.21.1 in JAR Manager and the panel runs it on Java 21 for you.
  • FLIB, version 0.2.9 or newer. Cyclic's page says it is built on Lothrazar's library mod, and the jar lists FLIB as required. Modrinth's dependency list for this file is empty, so the install window will not mention it. Install it yourself first.
  • Forge 1.20.1 instead? Cyclic 1.13.7 covers Forge 1.20.1 and needs Forge 47.1 or newer plus FLIB 0.0.15 or newer.
  • Cyclic's 26.1.2 build is marked alpha on Modrinth, so this guide sticks to the release builds.

Switch the server to NeoForge 1.21.1

  1. Open JAR Manager, under More in the left rail.
  2. Set Server software to NeoForge and Minecraft version to 1.21.1, then press Apply change.
  3. Leave Take a backup first ticked, press and hold Confirm & reinstall, and wait for the console to finish.

The screen warns that configuration files may be reset. Change your Minecraft version or mod loader covers the switch in full.

Install it

  1. Open the Mods tab under Content and leave the Modrinth source chip selected.
  2. Search for FLIB and press Install on it.
  3. Search for Cyclic, pick the one by Lothrazar and press Install.
  4. Go to Console, press Start and accept the EULA prompt the first time. The server is ready when the console shows Done.

To see it working, join and run give YourName cyclic:charm_stone in the Console. That hands you the Ethereal Circlet, a charm that stops suffocation and elytra crash damage.

Tip

Cyclic's README says its in-game guide book needs Patchouli, which is optional. On 1.21.1 the README's command for giving yourself the book is /give @s patchouli:guide_book[patchouli:book="cyclic:guide_book"]. Run it in game as a player.

Change what players can do

Cyclic writes cyclic-common.toml into the config folder after the first start, and a second file, cyclic-loot.toml, for chest loot. Open them in the File Manager and press Save when you are done.

The command section, inside [cyclic], decides who can run the mod's /cyclic commands. true means operators only and false means anyone, and by default home, health and hunger are operator-only while gethome, dev and ping are open to everyone. Each enchantment, in the enchantment section, has an enabled switch, and the mod's own comment says that an enchantment switched off still exists but does nothing.

Restart the server after any config change.

Common problems

  • The server stops at start and names flib. Install FLIB from the Mods tab, in the build that matches your Minecraft version.
  • It says FLIB is too old. Open the Installed view and press Check for updates.
  • Players cannot join. They need the same Cyclic file and the same loader. Press Export for players in the Installed view of the Mods tab for a zip of what they need, then read Join a modded server from your launcher.
  • Something else breaks at start. Fix Minecraft mod and plugin load errors walks through reading the log.
