Install Create on your Minecraft server

Create is a technology mod by simibubi and the Creators of Create team. It adds tools and blocks for building, decoration and automation, and the project says you set up contraptions of animated components that work together. It runs on Forge and NeoForge, and a separate team maintains a Fabric port.

Checked against Create 6.0.10 on NeoForge 1.21.1 and Create 6.0.8 on Forge 1.20.1, October 2026.

Pick the right build

Create is a mod, not a plugin, so Paper and Purpur servers can't load it. The build depends on your loader and Minecraft version:

• NeoForge, Minecraft 1.21.1: Create 6.0.10 asks for NeoForge 21.1.219 or newer. The panel runs 1.21.1 on Java 21 and installs the newest stable NeoForge build for that version.
• Forge, Minecraft 1.20.1: Create 6.0.8 asks for Forge 47.1.3 or newer. The panel runs 1.20.1 on Java 17 and installs the recommended Forge build for that version.
• Fabric: the main Create project has no Fabric build. Create Fabric is a separate project, with version 6.0.8.1 for Fabric 1.20.1, and it needs Fabric API.

The project's development status page lists Minecraft 1.21.2 to 1.21.11 as skipped and the 26.1 port as in progress, so a server on a newer version has no Create build yet.

To change loader or version, open JAR Manager under More, choose the loader under Server software and the version under Minecraft version, then press Apply change. Change your Minecraft version or mod loader has the full steps. Switching reinstalls the server and keeps your world, so make a backup in the Backups tab first.

Install it

1. Open Mods under Content and keep the Modrinth chip selected in the source chip row at the top of the tab. The Game version filter starts on your server's version.
2. Search for Create. Many add-ons carry the name, so choose the plain Create and not the Fabric port or an add-on.
3. Press Install. Create carries Flywheel, Ponder and Registrate inside its own jar, so the store has nothing else to ask for.
4. Restart from the Console tab. The install toast says "Restart the server to load it".

Open the Installed view to check. Create should be listed with no Failed to load badge.

Players need it too

Modrinth lists Create as required on the server and optional on the client. Have your players install the same Create version for their loader and Minecraft version if you want them to see and use the machines. Getting started in the game

The project describes Ponder as Create's visual in-game documentation, which walks you through every mechanic and gadget it adds. Start there before building anything large.

Create also builds from saved structures. Its Schematic Table writes a structure file onto a schematic item, and the project says the schematic is uploaded to the server so server-side actors can place it. You can then place it directly or let the Schematicannon do it. Big structures take longer, and you can leave the table's screen while the upload runs.

Settings

Create splits its settings into client, common and server files. The server one is create-server.toml. NeoForge's documentation says server-type configs load from the config folder, and a copy in a world's serverconfig folder overrides them. On Forge 1.20.1 the server file sits in the world's serverconfig folder instead (world/serverconfig with the default level name), because Forge's documentation puts server-type configs there and not in config. Stop the server before you edit a file in the File Manager.

Updating

Open the Installed view. The panel checks for newer builds by itself. If it finds any, a row shows an Update button and the top button reads Update all (N), which asks you to confirm. Press one, then restart. The update swaps in the newest build for your server's version. Make a backup in the Backups tab first.

Common problems

• No results for your version: Create has no build for Minecraft 1.21.2 to 1.21.11 and none for 26.x yet. Change the version in JAR Manager.
• The server stops at startup on Fabric: the Create project says it runs on Forge and NeoForge. Use Create Fabric on a Fabric server, or switch loader.
• Players are refused when they join: their Create version or loader doesn't match yours.
