Install Chisels & Bits on your server

Install Chisels & Bits 26.1.2.33 on a NeoForge 26.1.2 server from CurseForge, with no extra library to add, and what players need.

Updated 4 min read

Chisels & Bits lets players carve existing blocks into small pieces, called bits, and rebuild them into custom shapes. Players need it in their own game as well. On the server it is a single jar with no separate library to add.

Checked against Chisels & Bits 26.1.2.33 on NeoForge 26.1.2, October 2026. Other builds are 21.1.33 for NeoForge 1.21.1, 21.10.21 and 21.11.45 for NeoForge 1.21.10 and 1.21.11, and 20.1.20 for Forge 1.20.1.

What it needs

The newest builds are for NeoForge, and the Forge builds stop at 1.20.1. As a mod it can't run on Paper or Purpur. The newest build is for Minecraft 26.1.2, so a server on 26.2 or later finds nothing to install and needs to go back to a supported version. The 26.1.2 build asks for NeoForge 26.1.2.36-beta or a later 26.1.2 build and for Minecraft exactly 26.1.2. Minecraft 26.x runs on Java 25 and 1.21.1 on Java 21, and the panel picks the right one for you.

The mod needs a helper library called Scena. It ships inside the jar, so there is nothing extra to install.

Open Content in the panel menu and look for Mods. If the tab says Plugins or is missing, open JAR Manager under More, choose NeoForge under Server software, pick 26.1.2 as the Minecraft version and press Apply change. Leave Take a backup first ticked and confirm with Confirm & reinstall. Change your Minecraft version or mod loader has the full steps.

Install it from CurseForge

The official builds are published on CurseForge, under the project name Chisels & Bits - For Forge.

  1. Open Mods, keep the Store view and choose the CurseForge chip in the source chip row at the top of the tab. The Game version filter starts on your server's version.
  2. Search for Chisels & Bits and press Install on Chisels & Bits - For Forge.
  3. Restart from the Console tab. The install message says "Restart the server to load it".

Open the Installed view to check. The mod should be listed without a Failed to load badge.

Tip

Results on Modrinth with similar names, such as Bits And Chisels and Chisels & Bits for TFC, are different projects by other authors. They are not this mod.

Players need the mod too

The jar declares itself and its dependencies for both sides, so each player installs the same Chisels & Bits build through their launcher, on the same loader and Minecraft version. Join a modded server from your launcher covers it, and Fix the mismatched mod channel list error explains the usual refusal when lists differ.

First run

The project's wiki lists chisels in stone, iron, gold, diamond and netherite, a bit bag, a tape measure, a magnifying glass, a wrench and a sealant, plus bit storage, a chiseled printer and a modification table. Its tips page says most chisel and bit actions can be undone and redone, and that nearly every mode and action has a keybinding as an alternative to the radial menu.

Chiseled blocks can be picked up and moved. The wiki says breaking one with a pickaxe of the proper level drops it, so players can relocate a build. The mod also has an in-game settings screen where items can be disabled and some behaviour changed.

Updating

Click Check for updates in the Installed view and restart afterwards. Take a backup first from the Backups tab.

Common problems

  • Nothing turns up in the results: the mod has builds for 26.1.2, 1.21.1, 1.21.10, 1.21.11 and 1.20.1, among others. If your server runs another version, the results come back empty.
  • The server stops at startup: open Console and read the last lines, then look in the Installed view for a Needs badge. Fix mod and plugin errors on Minecraft covers reading the log.
  • Slow ticks: Why is my server lagging? Find the cause lists the usual causes.
