Install Apotheosis on your server

Apotheosis is a content mod by Shadows_of_Fire that adds Affix items, Gems and Sockets, and five World Tiers that make your world harder and its loot better. It is split into several mods that work together, so there is a short chain of installs before it runs. Players need the same mods in their own game.

Checked against Apotheosis 9.1.0 on NeoForge 26.1.2, October 2026. Apotheosis 8.9.0 covers NeoForge 1.21.1, and 7.4.8 covers Forge 1.20.1.

What it needs

Apotheosis is for NeoForge (from Minecraft 1.21.1) and Forge (1.20.1 only). There is no Fabric build, and as a mod it can't run on Paper or Purpur. Minecraft 26.1.2 runs on Java 25, 1.21.1 on Java 21 and 1.20.1 on Java 17, and the panel picks the right one for you.

The 9.1.0 jar requires the library mods Placebo and Apothic Attributes. Modrinth also lists Apothic Spawners, Apothic Enchanting and Patchouli as required. The project describes Patchouli as technically optional, but without it the in-game guidebook, the Chronicle of Shadows, is unavailable. It also recommends Just Enough Items and Jade.

Open Content in the panel menu and look for Mods. If the tab says Plugins or is missing, open JAR Manager under More, choose NeoForge under Server software, pick the Minecraft version, and press Apply change. Change your Minecraft version or mod loader has the steps. Switching reinstalls the server and keeps your world, but make a backup first in the Backups tab.

Install Apotheosis and its libraries

1. Open Mods, keep the Store view and the Modrinth chip selected in the source chip row at the top of the tab. The Game version filter starts on your server's version.
2. Search for Apotheosis and press Install on the result named exactly Apotheosis. Results such as Apotheosis Ascended are other mods.
3. A prompt titled "Needs N more add-ons" appears, with N the count. It lists the libraries Modrinth marks as required. Press Install all. Optional extras such as JEI and Jade are left unticked, and you can tick them if you want them.
4. Restart from the Console tab. The install toast says "Restart the server to load them".

Open the Installed view to check. You should see Apotheosis plus the library mods, none with a Failed to load badge. A Needs badge names a library that is missing.

Players need the same mods

Modrinth marks Apotheosis as required on both the client and the server. Each player installs Apotheosis and the same libraries through their launcher, on the same loader and Minecraft version. First run

Players open the World Tier screen with Ctrl+T by default. The tiers run from Haven to Pinnacle, and a higher tier gives better loot and stronger enemies in the whole world. Anyone can make the Chronicle of Shadows guidebook from a book and a gold ingot.

Changing the rules

Apotheosis is data driven, so affixes, gems, sockets and tier augments are all defined in JSON. To customise them, the project points you to its JSON schema on GitHub and to the stock datapack, which the 26.1.2 and 1.21.1 releases publish on Modrinth as a -stock_data.zip file. That needs a datapack or file edits and a restart, so test it on a copy of your world.

Updating

Click Check for updates in the Installed view. The store swaps in the newest build for your server's version, and you restart afterwards. The libraries need updating with it, since each Apotheosis release asks for a minimum library version.

Common problems

• The server stops at startup: open the Console and read the last lines. A library that is missing or older than Apotheosis asks for is the usual cause. Fix mod and plugin errors on Minecraft covers reading the log.
• Apotheosis isn't in the results: it has builds for 1.20.1, 1.21.1 and 26.1.2 only. If your server runs another version, the results come back empty.
