Change Character Appearance in Palworld

How to change your Palworld character's looks with the Antique Dresser: the unlock level, build cost and what 1.0 added, checked against v1.0.5.

Updated 2 min read

The Antique Dresser is how you change your Palworld character's looks after the first creation screen. You build it in your base, interact with it and edit your appearance again. This guide covers what unlocks it, what it costs to build and what Pocketpair added to character creation in 1.0.

Checked against Palworld v1.0.5 (Pocketpair's latest patch notes, 15 September 2026), October 2026.

What the Antique Dresser does

palworld.wiki.gg and paldb.cc both list the Antique Dresser as a piece of furniture that lets you edit your character's appearance. The wiki says you use it by interacting with it. Pocketpair's 1.0 changelog points the same way: one of its bug fixes mentions "the Antique Dresser's character customization screen", so the game has a customisation screen behind the dresser.

Neither database says whether the dresser can change your name or your character's gender. This guide only promises appearance, which is what both pages describe.

Unlock and build it

Both sites give the unlock as Technology level 21. For the build, the wiki and paldb.cc both list 20 Wooden Boards, 20 Fiber and 30 Stone. The wiki lists the unlock as costing Ancient Technology Points, which paldb.cc does not mention.

  1. Reach level 21 and unlock the Antique Dresser in the Technology menu.
  2. Gather the materials from the list above.
  3. Build it inside your base, like any other piece of furniture.
  4. Interact with it to open the customisation screen.

What is new in 1.0

Pocketpair's 1.0 notes say character creation gained 8 new hairstyles, 5 new face types and 13 new hair accessories, and that the player's default face model was refined. The notes do not say whether the dresser offers every one of them, so check what is available on the screen itself.

Tip

The dresser is furniture, so it sits in your base like a bed or a chair. Pick a spot you pass often and you will not forget it is there.

On your hosted server

The dresser is part of the base game. Nothing needs installing on your server, and the World Settings tab has no option for it. Build it in your base on the server the same way you would in a single-player world.

For the rates and rules the tab does control, see Palworld server settings explained.
