7 Days to Die worlds and saves
Pick Navezgane, a ready-made world or a new random world for your 7 Days to Die server, start fresh, keep several saves and bring your own world over.
Your 7 Days to Die server can run the game's built-in map, one of the other worlds that come with the game, or a brand new random world of its own. Here's how to pick one, start fresh, keep several saves and bring a world over from your own game.
Worlds and saves
Two settings in the Startup tab decide what your server plays:
- World is the map itself.
- Save name is your group's progress on that map: what you've built, looted and explored.
One world can hold many saves, and the server keeps every one, so you can switch between them.
Pick a world
Set World in the Startup tab to one of these, then restart:
Make a new random world
- In the Startup tab, set World to
RWG. - Set World seed to any word or phrase. The seed is what the new world is generated from.
- Set World size to
6144,8192or10240. - Restart the server.
The first start generates the world. The Console shows Generating a new random world, with the name the game gives it, and then World generated. On our servers a 6144 world generated in about 15 seconds and was ready for players about a minute after Start. Bigger worlds take longer. Wait for Players can join now before joining.
The world is kept in UserData/GeneratedWorlds, under the name the game gave it. If a world with the name your seed produces is already there, the server loads it instead of making a new one.
Start fresh, or keep several saves
To start over on the same world, change Save name in the Startup tab to a new name and restart. Your old save stays on the server, and changing the name back returns to it. A save name can use letters, numbers, - and _.
To delete a save for good, stop the server and delete its folder in the File Manager tab: saves are in UserData/Saves, in a folder named after the world, then one folder per save name. Make a backup in Backups first if there's any chance you'll want it back.
Bring a world from your own game
You can move a world your group has been playing in someone's own game onto the server.
- On that computer, find the world and save. On Windows the game keeps them in
%AppData%\7DaysToDie: random worlds inGeneratedWorlds, saves inSaves, in a folder named after the world. - Stop your server and make a backup.
- If the world is a random world, zip its folder from
GeneratedWorlds, upload the zip toUserData/GeneratedWorldsin the File Manager tab and extract it there. - Zip the save's folder (the one named after your save, inside the world's folder in
Saves), upload it toUserData/Saves/<world name>and extract it there. Create the world's folder first if it isn't there. - In the Startup tab, set World to the world's folder name and Save name to the save's folder name.
- Start the server.
For a large world you can also upload over SFTP. The server and your game must be on the same version: see 7 Days to Die game version and experimental.
Save name takes letters, numbers, - and _. If your save's name has a space or a dot in it, contact us before you upload it rather than renaming the folder, because the game also uses the save name when placing trees and other decoration.
