Minecraft Seed Map

See the biomes and structures in your world from the seed alone, across the Overworld, the Nether and the End, at the surface or deep underground, without loading it. Java Edition, 1.19 and up.

Not an official Minecraft product. Not approved by or associated with Mojang or Microsoft. Worldgen runs on deepslate with data from Mojang's own data generator, and the map's colours are the game's own, from its block textures and biome colormaps. The item and block art on the chips and markers is Mojang's.

How it works

Minecraft builds every world from the seed with a fixed recipe: a few layers of noise turn into temperature, humidity, continentalness, erosion and weirdness at every block, and a table Mojang ships with the game maps those five numbers to a biome. The map runs that same recipe in your browser, from the data the game generates for itself, so nothing is guessed and nothing is uploaded.

Structures follow the same rule. Each kind has a grid, a random offset inside each grid cell and a list of biomes it accepts; the map walks the grid, rolls the same offsets and checks the same biomes. Slime chunks are one formula on the seed and the chunk position.

What the map shows

  • Biomes at the surface, in the caves (y 0) or deep down (y -50), in all three dimensions.
  • Villages by type, strongholds, ancient cities, mansions, monuments, outposts, trial chambers, temples, witch huts, igloos, trail ruins, ruined portals, shipwrecks, ocean ruins, buried treasure and mineshafts; fortresses and bastions in the Nether; End cities.
  • Slime chunks, the chunk grid, and an approximate world spawn.
  • Find the nearest structure or biome from wherever you are, copy a link to the view or save it as an image.

Versions

The map carries worldgen data for the releases where the biome list changed. A server on another release draws with the newest set that is not newer than it, and the version control says so.

Data setOverworld biomesCovers

26.15426.1 up to 26.2
1.21.4541.21.4 up to 26.1
1.20.6531.20.6 up to 1.21.4
1.19.4521.19.4 up to 1.20.6

What it does not show

  • Exact heights. The shading is estimated from the terrain noise, not from generated blocks, so cliffs, overhangs, trees and caves are not drawn.
  • Ores and diamonds, geodes, dungeons, fossils and desert wells: the game places them into blocks the map never builds.
  • Nether fossils, and what is inside a structure: its layout, loot and spawners, or whether an End city has a ship.
  • Anything your players built or dug, and ground explored before the server updated, which keeps its old terrain.
  • Superflat, single biome, and worlds a datapack or mod generates.
  • Bedrock Edition structures.
