Set up a Valhelsia 6 server

Install Valhelsia 6 (Forge 1.20.1) from the Modpacks tab with the CurseForge source, then start it, tune it and pre-generate the world.

Updated 4 min read

Valhelsia 6 is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1 from the ValhelsiaTeam. You install it from the Modpacks tab with the CurseForge source. Valhelsia: Enhanced Vanilla, an older Fabric pack from the same team, is not covered here: its server stopped with a Fabric set-up error when this guide was checked.

Checked against Valhelsia 6 6.2.3 on Forge 1.20.1, October 2026.

What the pack needs

  • Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge. The CurseForge server files are a download of about 836 MB that unpack to about 901 MB. The download sits on your plan's disk while it unpacks, so you need room for both at once.
  • Memory. The Valhelsia wiki recommends at least 4 GB for 5 to 7 players and says servers usually need 4 to 8 GB. Your plan sets the RAM, so see how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and the Minecraft plans before you install.
  • Java. The panel chooses the Java version from the pack's Minecraft version and runs the pack on Java 17, so there is nothing to set.
  • The same pack version for players. Valhelsia 6 is on version 6.2.3. Players should run the version the server runs.

Install the server files

  1. Open your server and choose Modpacks under Content in the left rail.
  2. Press the CurseForge source button, then search for Valhelsia.
  3. Press Install on Valhelsia 6. Other Valhelsia packs, including Valhelsia 7 and older ones, appear in the same results, so check the name. The popup says it reinstalls your server with the pack and names the loader and Minecraft version. It should read Forge and 1.20.1.
  4. Leave Take a backup first ticked. Your current world is replaced by the pack's. Tick Start the server when it's ready if you want the server to start by itself. If the EULA has not been accepted yet, an I agree to the Minecraft EULA box then appears: tick it too.
  5. Hold Install and reinstall until it fills, then wait.

The pack ships its own ServerStart.sh with a 4 GB memory setting. The panel does not use it. It writes its own launch script and sizes the memory from your plan's RAM, so changing your plan needs no reinstall.

The Valhelsia 6 server files carry a Forge 1.20.1 installer (47.4.0), which the panel runs during the install.

First start

Press Start on the Console tab. If the EULA has not been accepted yet, the Accept the Minecraft EULA box asks first: press Accept & start. The server is up when the console prints a line containing For help, type. On the Netherite plan that took about 2 and a half minutes from pressing Start. The first start prints many Forge config warnings of the form Incorrect key ... was corrected from null to its default, and the server still starts.

The pack ships a server.properties with allow-flight=true, which the Valhelsia wiki asks for on modded servers. It shows as Allow flight under Gameplay in the Config Editor.

Your address is in the left rail under Server address. Connect to your server for the first time covers adding it in Minecraft.

Pre-generate the world

The pack includes the Chunky mod. Pre-generating builds chunks ahead of time instead of while players explore. In the Console, run chunky radius 1000, then chunky start, and check how far it has got with chunky progress. Chunky answers [Chunky] Radius changed to 1000. and, once started, prints [Chunky] Task running for minecraft:overworld. lines. A larger radius takes longer, so start small and raise it if you need to.

Common problems

  • A player cannot join. Check they run the same pack version as the server, 6.2.3 for Valhelsia 6.
  • The server lags. Watch the RAM card on the Console tab and the TPS reading in the left rail. Lower View distance (chunks) under Performance in the Config Editor, and move to a bigger plan if the RAM card stays full. Why is my server lagging has more. The pack also includes the spark profiler mod.
  • The install stops while unpacking. Your plan's disk may be too small. Check Disk Analyser, clear space and install again.
  • A mod fails to load or the server crashes at boot. Find and read a crash report and fix mod and plugin load errors cover reading the log.
  • A bug inside the pack. The Valhelsia team keeps a server setup page on its wiki and answers questions on its Discord.
Warning

Installing a pack reinstalls your server. If you have a world you care about, keep Take a backup first ticked.
