Set up a Project Ozone 3 server

Install Project Ozone 3: A New Way Forward on Forge 1.12.2 from the Modpacks tab, then pick a pack mode and Garden of Glass world type before you start.

Updated 5 min read

Project Ozone 3: A New Way Forward is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.12.2 that mixes tech, magic and exploration, with a Better Questing quest book of more than a thousand quests and a choice of pack modes. You install it from the Modpacks tab, using the pack's own server files. This guide covers Project Ozone 3. Project Ozone 2: Reloaded is an older pack for Minecraft 1.7.10 and is not covered here.

Checked against Project Ozone 3 3.4.11F on Forge 14.23.5.2860 and Minecraft 1.12.2, October 2026.

What the pack needs

  • Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge 14.23.5.2860. The server files carry the Forge jar and the Minecraft server jar. The panel chooses the Java version from the pack's Minecraft version and runs Minecraft 1.12.2 on Java 8, so there is nothing to set.
  • Memory. The pack's page says it needs at least 6 GB of RAM and at most 8 GB, and that with less the pack might crash. Your plan sets the RAM, so see how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and the Minecraft plans before you install.
  • Disk space. The server files are a download of about 434 MB and unpack to about 494 MB. The download sits on your plan's disk while it unpacks, so you need room for both.
  • The same pack version for players. This guide installs Project Ozone 3 3.4.11F. Players should run that version.

Install the server files

  1. Open your server and choose Modpacks under Content in the left rail.
  2. Press the CurseForge source button, then search for Project Ozone 3.
  3. Press Install on Project Ozone 3 A New Way Forward. The popup says it reinstalls your server with the pack (Forge, Minecraft 1.12.2).
  4. Leave Take a backup first ticked. Your current world is replaced by the pack's. Tick Start the server when it's ready if you want it to start itself, and tick I agree to the Minecraft EULA if the popup shows it.
  5. Hold Install and reinstall until it fills, then wait.

The pack's start.bat is not used. The panel writes its own launch script and sizes the memory from your plan's RAM.

Choose a pack mode and world type before the first start

Do both before you press Start. The pack's page says to set the mode before the pack loads, and a world type only applies when the world is first created.

Pack mode. The pack has four modes, normal, titan, kappa and mythic. The pack's page says to set the mode in config/packmode.cfg on both the client and the server before the pack loads. In File Manager, open config/packmode.cfg, change the line S:packMode=normal to the mode you want and press Save. Players set the same value in their own copy of the file. The in-game /packmode command also changes it, but the client and server must both restart afterwards.

World type. The pack's page recommends the Garden of Glass world type. It also lists botania-skyblock, SKYLANDS and lostcities as level types. For Garden of Glass, open server.properties in File Manager, add the line level-type=botania-skyblock and press Save. The install writes a short server.properties for you if the pack has none, and the pack's server files do not include one. The Config Editor only lists the vanilla world types, so use File Manager for this. If you ticked Keep my world, settings and player lists and have an older world, set a new World folder (level-name) in the Config Editor so the server generates a fresh world.

Once players are in a Garden of Glass world, the pack's page gives the command /botania-skyblock-spread <player name> for placing new players on their own islands. For a Lost Cities world, the page gives generator-settings={"profile":"nodamage"}.

First start

Press Start on the Console tab. The server files carry no eula.txt, so if you did not tick I agree to the Minecraft EULA in the install popup, the panel asks you to accept the Minecraft EULA first. The server is up when the console prints a line containing For help, type. The pack has about 265 mod files.

Your address is in the left rail under Server address. Connect to your server for the first time covers adding it in Minecraft.

Common problems

  • A player cannot join. Check they run Project Ozone 3 3.4.11F and the same packMode as the server.
  • The server crashes or runs out of memory. The pack's page warns that less than 6 GB might crash it. Watch the RAM card on the Console tab and the TPS reading in the left rail, and move to a bigger plan if the RAM card stays full. Why is my server lagging has more.
  • The install stops while unpacking. Your plan's disk may be too small. Check Disk Analyser, clear space and install again.
  • A mod fails to load. Find and read a crash report shows how to name it.
  • A bug inside the pack. The team takes reports at https://github.com/Cazadorsniper/PO3/issues.
Warning

Installing a pack reinstalls your server. If you have a world you care about, keep Take a backup first ticked.
