Set up an MC Eternal 2 server
Install the MC Eternal 2 Forge pack from the Modpacks tab, plan for its 1.5 GB server pack and help players join on version 1.3.
MC Eternal 2 is a "kitchen sink" Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1. The project page says it mixes hundreds of quests with Create factories, Mekanism, spellcasting mods, MineColonies towns, bosses and a custom mining dimension called The Great Below. This guide installs it from the Modpacks tab and covers how players join.
Checked against MC Eternal 2 1.3 (Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge), October 2026.
What it needs
- Forge on Minecraft 1.20.1. The newest file on CurseForge is MC Eternal 2-1.3. It has a separate server pack,
[MCE2]-Server-Pack-1.3.zip, which the Modpacks tab installs for you. It is a large download, about 1.5 GB. - Java 17. The panel picks Java from the Minecraft version, and 1.20.1 gets Java 17.
- RAM. The author's own server files set the Java heap to between 4 GB and 8 GB. The pack page suggests players have at least 16 GB in their computer, with 8 to 10 GB given to the game. Choose a plan with 8 GB of RAM or more, the top of the author's range, on Minecraft hosting.
- Free disk space. The zip downloads onto your server's disk before it is unpacked, and it is big, so keep plenty of room for the zip and then the unpacked pack.
- The right pack. The same author also publishes MC Eternal and MC Eternal Lite, which are separate packs. Pick MC Eternal 2.
Install it on your server
Installing a modpack reinstalls the whole server and replaces the current world, so use a new server or one you can wipe.
- Open Backups and click Create backup.
- Open Modpacks, under Content in the left rail. Above the results, choose the CurseForge chip, next to Modrinth.
- Search for
MC Eternal 2and pick the row by adam98991 named exactly MC Eternal 2. - Click Install. A window titled Install MC Eternal 2? opens.
- Leave Take a backup first ticked. Tick Start the server when it's ready if you want the server to start itself. If an I agree to the Minecraft EULA box then appears, tick it. If you leave Start unticked, accept the EULA at your first Start on the Console tab instead, if the window appears.
- Press and hold Install and reinstall, then watch the Console tab. Allow time for the download and for Forge to install. A progress bar fills as the install runs, and it finishes at 100% with the message Installed. Start the server whenever you are ready.
The server pack keeps everything inside one folder and brings its own Forge installer. The installer in this pack is for Forge 47.4.2. The panel unpacks the folder to the server's root and runs that installer for you, so you do not run the pack's run.bat or follow its readme steps.
The panel writes its own start script and sizes the Java heap from your plan's RAM. The memory numbers in the pack's own files are not used.
Join the server
- In the CurseForge app, install MC Eternal 2. Version 1.3 is the newest on its page.
- Add your server in the multiplayer list with the address in the left rail. Connect to your server for the first time shows where it is.
Use Operators in the Players tab to give yourself commands (Whitelist players and set operators).
Updating later
A CurseForge pack has no Update to button, because that button only checks Modrinth packs, and a pack that is already installed shows Installed instead of Install. To move to a newer version, take a backup, press Remove modpack, then install the new version.
The pack's readme adds one step after an update: delete the serverconfig folder inside your world folder, because leaving it can stop some changes from applying. Open File Manager, open the world folder, and delete serverconfig.
Common problems
- The console says no CurseForge server pack is available. Check you picked MC Eternal 2, not MC Eternal or MC Eternal Lite.
- The install stops while unpacking. The message says your plan's disk may be too small. Free some space and install again.
- The server runs out of memory. Check the RAM Usage card, and see Why is my server lagging.
Installing a modpack replaces the server's current files. Take a backup first.
