Set up a Levitated server

Install the Levitated exploration-skyblock modpack for Minecraft 1.12.2 from the Modpacks tab with CurseForge's server files, then start it.

Updated 4 min read

Levitated is a Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge modpack by misterplus_cn that mixes exploration with skyblock. Its CurseForge page says the overworld and the nether have collapsed, that players start in the End and have to scavenge their way back to the nether, and that a custom advancement system guides most of the gameplay. You install the server from the Modpacks tab, using the pack's own server files.

Checked against Levitated 1.5.3 on Minecraft 1.12.2, October 2026. The pack's own files name Forge 14.23.5.2847, and our test install set up Forge 14.23.5.2859 instead.

What the pack needs

  • Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge. The pack's settings.sh names the Forge 14.23.5.2847 installer and jar, and the server files include that installer. On our test server the install log said "Installing Forge 1.12.2-14.23.5.2859" and the launch line used forge-1.12.2-14.23.5.2859.jar, so the panel set up its own Forge build for 1.12.2 rather than running the pack's installer. For Minecraft 1.12.2 the panel runs Java 8 on its own.
  • Memory. The pack page recommends a plan with at least 4 GB of memory, and the pack's own start script sets a maximum of 4096 MB. Your plan sets the RAM, so see how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and the Minecraft plans.
  • Disk space. The server zip is about 202 MB and unpacks to about 224 MB, and Forge adds its libraries on top. The zip sits on your plan's disk while it unpacks, so keep room for both.
  • The same pack version for players. 1.5.3 is the final version. The page says there will be no more updates beyond vital bug fixes and new translations. Players need 1.5.3 in the CurseForge app.

Install the server files

Installing a modpack reinstalls the server and replaces the current world, so use a new server or one you can wipe.

  1. Open Backups under Essentials and press Create backup if the server holds anything you want to keep.
  2. Open Modpacks under Content in the left rail.
  3. Press the CurseForge source button, then search for Levitated.
  4. Press Install on Levitated by misterplus_cn. The popup says it reinstalls your server and reads modded, Minecraft 1.12.2.
  5. Leave Take a backup first ticked. Tick Start the server when it's ready if you want the server to start itself, and tick I agree to the Minecraft EULA if the popup shows it.
  6. Press and hold Hold to Install and reinstall until it fills, then watch the Console tab until the install log reports Pack installed.

First start

Press Start on the Console tab. The pack carries no eula.txt, so unless you accepted the EULA in the install popup or earlier on this server, the panel opens Accept the Minecraft EULA first. The server is up when the console prints a line containing For help, type.

The pack ships its own server.properties. It sets level-type to void_plustweaks, a world type the World type list in Config Editor does not offer, so leave World type alone. It also sets force-gamemode=true, which the Force game mode switch describes as putting players back into the default mode every time they join, and max-players=20, which is Player slots. Your address is in the left rail under Server address, and Connect to your server for the first time covers adding it in Minecraft.

Playing it

The pack page says the advancement page is the first place to look when you are stuck, that some recipes are only hinted at there and have to be worked out in JEI, and that players build their own dimensions with the Scanner mod. It also says you should be familiar with modded Minecraft to enjoy the pack.

Common problems

  • A player cannot join. They need Levitated 1.5.3 on Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge.
  • The install log says no server engine could be set up. The pack's own README says to run the Forge install step again if the jars are missing, and names networking problems as the other cause. On the Modpacks tab, press Retry install under The last install didn't finish.
  • The install stops while unpacking. Your plan's disk may be too small. Check Disk Analyser, clear space and install again. Server out of disk space shows how.
  • The server crashes at boot. Find and read a crash report shows how to name the mod at fault.
Warning

Installing a pack replaces the server's current files and world. The pack page also asks you to back up your world before updating it. Keep Take a backup first ticked.
