Set up a Last Days of Humanity server

Install the Last Days of Humanity zombie pack from the Modpacks tab, apply the readme's server.properties settings and let players join.

Updated 4 min read

Last Days of Humanity is a zombie survival modpack for Minecraft 1.12.2. The pack page sets one goal: survive 100 days, with faster zombies, an invasion every 10 days and a parasite raid on the 100th midnight. This guide installs it from the Modpacks tab, sets the options its authors ask for, and covers how players join.

Checked against Last Days of Humanity 0.5.7 (Minecraft 1.12.2, Forge), October 2026.

What it needs

  • Forge on Minecraft 1.12.2. The newest file on CurseForge, LDoH-0.5.7.zip, is a Forge 1.12.2 pack. It has a separate server pack, LDOH-serverpack+0.5.7.zip, about 226 MB, which the Modpacks tab installs for you.
  • Java 8. The panel picks Java from the Minecraft version, and 1.12.2 gets Java 8. The pack's own readme asks for Java 8 too.
  • RAM. The pack's FAQ recommends 4 to 5 GB for the game. Choose a plan with 4 GB of RAM or more on Minecraft hosting.
  • Free disk space. The zip downloads onto your server's disk before it is unpacked, so keep room for the zip and then the unpacked pack.
  • The pack page. Last Days of Humanity is a CurseForge pack, so players install it from its CurseForge page.

Install it on your server

Installing a modpack reinstalls the whole server and replaces the current world, so use a new server or one you can wipe.

  1. Open Backups and click Create backup.
  2. Open Modpacks, under Content in the left rail. Above the results, choose the CurseForge chip, next to Modrinth.
  3. Search for Last Days of Humanity. Pick the row by bstylia14, the author, with the Minecraft 1.12.2 and Forge badges.
  4. Click Install. A window titled Install Last Days of Humanity? opens.
  5. Leave Take a backup first ticked, and leave Start the server when it's ready unticked, because the settings in the next section come first. Accept the Minecraft EULA at your first Start on the Console tab instead, if the window appears.
  6. Press and hold Install and reinstall, then watch the Console tab. A progress bar fills as the install runs, and it finishes at 100% with the message Installed. Start the server whenever you are ready.

Set the options the authors ask for

The pack's readme lists three server.properties settings it needs to work as intended: allow-flight=true, enable-command-block=true and level-type=default.

  1. Open Config Editor, under Content.
  2. In the Gameplay section, turn on Allow flight and Command blocks, then press Save changes.
  3. Leave World type alone. The Config Editor rewrites only the settings you change, so the default stays.
  4. If you want the hardcore mode the pack page recommends, turn on Hardcore in the same section. The setting applies to worlds as they are created, so set it before you first start the server.
  5. Press Start on the Console tab and accept the Minecraft EULA when the window appears, so the server starts with the settings applied.

Join the server

  1. In the CurseForge app, install Last Days of Humanity. Version 0.5.7 is the newest on its page.
  2. In the CurseForge app, allocate 4 to 5 GB of memory to Minecraft, as the pack page recommends.
  3. Add your server in the multiplayer list using the address in the left rail. Connect to your server for the first time shows where it is.

Use Operators in the Players tab to give yourself commands (Whitelist players and set operators).

Reduce lag with pregeneration

The readme suggests pregenerating the map before play with the Chunk Pregenerator mod that comes in the pack. Send pregen gen startradius square 0 0 316 from the Console, let it run for at least 30 minutes, then send pregen stop and restart. The readme gives the commands with a leading slash; the server console takes them without one. It also warns that pregeneration can cause lag instead of fixing it, so skip it if your TPS drops.

Updating later

A CurseForge pack has no Update to button, because that button only checks Modrinth packs, and a pack that is already installed shows Installed instead of Install. To move to a newer version, take a backup, press Remove modpack, then install the new version.

Common problems

  • The console says no CurseForge server pack is available. Check you picked the 1.12.2 row by bstylia14, not a similar pack.
  • The install stops while unpacking. The message says your plan's disk may be too small. Free some space and install again.
Warning

Installing a modpack replaces the server's current files. Take a backup first.
