Set up a JurassiCraft server
Run the JurassiCraft dinosaur mod on Forge 1.12.2: switch software in JAR Manager, upload the mod and LLibrary by hand, then let players join.
JurassiCraft is a Forge mod that brings dinosaurs into Minecraft. The project page says players find fossils and amber, pull DNA out of them with machines, and grow a baby dinosaur. It also lists prehistoric plants, park decorations and vehicles. This guide sets up a Forge 1.12.2 server for it, adds the mod by hand, and covers what players need to join.
Checked against JurassiCraft 2.1.23 and LLibrary 1.7.20 on Forge 1.12.2, October 2026.
What it needs
- Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge. The project page says the mod needs Minecraft 1.12.2 or 1.11.2, and its newest file,
JurassiCraft-1.12.2-2.1.23.jar, is for 1.12.2. This guide uses 1.12.2. - LLibrary 1.7.9 or newer. JurassiCraft's file lists this library mod as a required dependency. The newest 1.12.2 build is
llibrary-1.7.20-1.12.2.jar. - Java 8. The panel picks Java from the Minecraft version, and for 1.12.2 it picks Java 8, so you do not choose it.
- RAM. The project page gives no figure. Start with the plan you have and watch the RAM Usage card on the Console tab. Why is my server lagging covers what to do if memory runs short.
Switch the server to Forge 1.12.2
- Open JAR Manager in the left rail, under More.
- Under Server software, choose Forge. Under Minecraft version, choose 1.12.2.
- Click Apply change. The panel warns that the server reinstalls with the selected jar, that your world is kept, and that configuration files may be reset.
- In the Reinstall server? window, leave Take a backup first ticked, then press and hold Confirm & reinstall.
- Watch the Console tab until the install finishes. Press Start, and accept the Minecraft EULA when the window appears.
Add JurassiCraft and LLibrary
The Mods tab cannot install JurassiCraft for you. It only installs mods whose authors allow other apps to download them, and JurassiCraft's author does not. Download both files from CurseForge in your browser and upload them instead.
- Open the JurassiCraft page on CurseForge and download
JurassiCraft-1.12.2-2.1.23.jar. - Open the LLibrary page and download
llibrary-1.7.20-1.12.2.jar. - In File Manager, open the
modsfolder. If it is not there, make it with New folder. - Click the Upload button (its tooltip reads Upload files) and choose both jars. The JurassiCraft jar is about 22 MB, well under the 100 MB browser upload limit.
- Go back to the Console tab and press Restart, or Start if the server is stopped.
Put both jars in the folder before you restart. JurassiCraft's file lists LLibrary as a required dependency, so the two go in together.
Join the server
The mod's page gives its install steps for a game computer in this order: Forge, then LLibrary, then JurassiCraft. Players follow the same order on their own computer. Players add the server with the address shown in the left rail. Connect to your server for the first time shows where to find it.
To give yourself operator rights, use Operators in the Players tab (Whitelist players and set operators).
What players will find
The project page says the mod ships with 10 dinosaurs, and lists fossils, skeletons, machinery, plants, decorations and vehicles. It points players to the mod's wiki for the DNA and hatching steps.
Common problems
- The server stops while loading. Check the Console log, and check that both jars sit in
mods. A missing LLibrary is the first thing to rule out, since JurassiCraft's file lists it as required. - You want a newer Minecraft version. JurassiCraft's newest file is for 1.12.2, so keep the server on 1.12.2 while the mod is installed.
Changing the server software reinstalls the server. Take the backup first, and read Create and restore backups if you have not used Backups before.
