Set up a Farming Valley server
Install the Farming Valley Forge 1.10.2 pack from the Modpacks tab using CurseForge's server files, and learn why its mods must not be removed.
Farming Valley is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.10.2, made by Kehaan. Its CurseForge page says it is built around the kind of game Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon are: you build and run a farm and a small town, sell crops to local NPCs for money, and spend that money to progress. The page describes four seasons, each with its own crops, and an achievement book for long-term goals. You install the server from the Modpacks tab, using the pack's own server files.
Checked against Farming Valley 1.3.6 (the CurseForge file dated 7 September 2026) on Forge 12.18.3.2511 and Minecraft 1.10.2, October 2026.
What the pack needs
- Minecraft 1.10.2 with Forge 12.18.3.2511. The server files include
forge-1.10.2-12.18.3.2511-universal.jarandminecraft_server.1.10.2.jar, and the panel launches that Forge jar. It runs Minecraft 1.10.2 on Java 8, chosen for you. - Memory. The CurseForge page gives no figure. The pack's own
LaunchServer.shasks for-Xmx2G, but the panel writes its own launch script and sizes the memory from your plan, so that value is not used. Read how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and check the Minecraft plans before you install. - Disk space. The server files are a download of about 153 MB and unpack to about 172 MB. The download sits on your plan's disk while it unpacks, so you need room for both.
- The same pack version for players. This guide installs 1.3.6. Players should run that version from the CurseForge app.
Install the server files
- Open your server and choose Modpacks under Content in the left rail.
- Press the CurseForge source button, then search for
Farming Valley. - Press Install on Farming Valley. Other packs with similar names, such as Farming Valley - Lite, appear in the same results, so check the name.
- The popup says it reinstalls your server with the pack and names Forge and Minecraft 1.10.2.
- Leave Take a backup first ticked. Your current world is replaced by the pack's. Tick Start the server when it's ready if you want it to start itself, and tick I agree to the Minecraft EULA if the popup shows it.
- Hold Install and reinstall until it fills, then wait for the install to finish.
First start
Press Start on the Console tab. The pack's own eula.txt says eula=false, so the panel asks you to accept the Minecraft EULA first if you did not tick it in the popup. The server is up when the console prints a line containing For help, type.
The server files carry no server.properties, so the install writes a short one and Minecraft fills in the full file on that first start. Your address is in the left rail under Server address. Connect to your server for the first time covers adding it in Minecraft.
Do not remove mods
The CurseForge page carries this warning in capitals: the modpack does not support removing mods. Leave the mods folder as the install made it. If a mod causes trouble, find out which one from the crash report instead of deleting it. Find and read a crash report shows how.
Tune it for a server
- Lower the view distance if the server struggles. Open Config Editor, go to Performance, change View distance (chunks), press Save changes and restart.
- Watch the cards. The RAM card on the Console tab and the TPS reading in the left rail show whether the plan is keeping up. Why is my server lagging has more.
Common problems
- A player cannot join. Check they run Farming Valley 1.3.6 on Minecraft 1.10.2 with Forge.
- The install stops while unpacking. Your plan's disk may be too small. Check Disk Analyser, clear space and install again.
- The server crashes at boot. Read the crash report as above before changing anything.
Installing a pack reinstalls your server. If you have a world you care about, keep Take a backup first ticked.
