Set up the Star Technology modpack server
Install the Star Technology GregTech skyblock modpack on a Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge server from the Modpacks tab, using its CurseForge server files.
Star Technology is a GregTech CEu Modern skyblock modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge. Its CurseForge page calls it a work in progress and "not a beginner-friendly modpack", with a quest book that is updated with every release. You install the server from the Modpacks tab, using the pack's own server files.
Checked against Star Technology 1.20.1 THETA 2 HOTFIX 4 (the latest file, marked beta on CurseForge, with server files dated 6 October 2026) on Forge 47.4.20 and Minecraft 1.20.1, October 2026.
What the pack needs
- Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge 47.4.20. The server files carry that Forge build in their
librariesfolder. The panel runs 1.20.1 on Java 17 and picks it for you. - Memory. The pack's page gives 4 GB as the minimum and 6 GB or more as the recommendation. Your plan sets the RAM, so read how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and check the Minecraft plans before you install.
- Disk space. The server files are a download of about 495 MB and unpack to about 576 MB. The download sits on your plan's disk while it unpacks, so you need room for both.
- The same pack version for players. Players should install Star Technology 1.20.1 THETA 2 HOTFIX 4 from the CurseForge app.
Install the server
- Open your server and choose Modpacks under Content in the left rail.
- Above the search box, press the CurseForge chip, then search for
Star Technology. - Press Install on Star Technology by trulyno. The search also lists separate packs with similar names, such as Star Technology - Hardmode, so check the author. The window says it reinstalls your server and names a loader and a Minecraft version. It should read Forge and Minecraft 1.20.1. If it names another version, press Cancel.
- Leave Take a backup first ticked. Your current world is replaced by the pack's. Tick Start the server when it's ready if you want it to start itself, and tick I agree to the Minecraft EULA if the window shows it.
- Press and hold the Hold to Install and reinstall button until it fills, then watch the Console until the install finishes.
The pack's own run.sh asks for a 4 GB heap through user_jvm_args.txt. The panel writes its own start script instead and sizes the heap from your plan's RAM at every start.
First start
Press Start on the Console tab. If the EULA has not been accepted yet, the panel asks you to accept it first. The server is up when the console prints a line containing For help, type. Your address is in the left rail under Server address. Connect to your server for the first time covers adding it in Minecraft.
The pack's server.properties sets level-type=skyblockbuilder:skyblock, difficulty=peaceful and enable-command-block=false, so the world is a skyblock with hostile mobs off. Open the Config Editor to change Difficulty or Command blocks under Gameplay, save and restart. Leave World type alone: its menu lists only the vanilla types, and the Config Editor writes only the settings you change.
Common problems
- A player cannot join. Check they run the same Star Technology version on Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge, then compare their mod list with the server's
modsfolder. - The install stops while unpacking. Your plan's disk may be too small. Check Disk Analyser, clear space and install again.
- The server lags or runs out of memory. Watch the RAM card on the Console tab and the TPS reading in the left rail. Why is my server lagging has more.
- The server crashes at boot. Find and read a crash report shows how to name the mod at fault. The pack takes bug reports on its GitHub issue tracker.
Installing a pack reinstalls your server. If you have a world you care about, keep Take a backup first ticked.
