Set up the Infinite Origins modpack server
Install Infinite Origins on a Fabric server from the Modpacks tab, and choose between the stable v1.8 and the 2.0 beta before you press Install.
Infinite Origins is a Fabric modpack built around the Origins mod, where each player picks an origin at the start of the game, each with its own benefits and drawbacks. Its CurseForge page lists around 45 new origin types, Terralith world generation and a skin pack to match each origin. You install the server from the Modpacks tab. The pack has two lines, an older stable release and a newer beta, so choose the version first.
Checked against Infinite Origins v1.8 (CurseForge file dated 8 June 2022) on Fabric and Minecraft 1.18.1, and the 2.0 BETA file dated 28 July 2024 for Minecraft 1.20.1, October 2026.
Which version to install
- v1.8, the stable release. Minecraft 1.18.1 on Fabric. It has a server pack of about 214 MB that unpacks to about 227 MB, with 80 mods. Players install Infinite Origins v1.8 from the CurseForge app.
- 2.0 BETA. Minecraft 1.20.1 on Fabric 0.16.0, with 135 files in its list (mods, plus two shaders and a resource pack). It is marked beta and the page calls its origin list a work in progress. It has no server pack, only a client export that lists its mods, so the panel downloads each mod itself. It takes longer. About nine of the 135 files have no download the panel can fetch, so the window may ask you to download them from CurseForge first. Modpack mods to download from CurseForge covers that step.
The rest of this guide installs v1.8. The panel runs 1.18.1 on Java 17 and picks it for you.
What the pack needs
- Memory. The pack's page gives no RAM figure. Your plan sets the RAM, so read how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and check the Minecraft plans before you install.
- Disk space. The download sits on your plan's disk while it unpacks, so you need room for both the zip and its contents.
Install the server
- Open your server and choose Modpacks under Content in the left rail.
- Above the search box, press the CurseForge chip, then search for
Infinite Origins. - Press Install on Infinite Origins, and check the row says it is by Naox_95. The same author also publishes Infinite Origins Lite, a separate pack, so do not pick the row with "Lite" in its name.
- Read the first line of the window. "Minecraft 1.18.1" is v1.8. "Minecraft 1.20.1" is the 2.0 beta, which the panel may pick by default. Some windows have a version menu that reads Newest that fits your server. If yours does, open it and choose Infinite Origins v1.8. The menu lists only the files that match your server's current Minecraft version, so v1.8 may be missing from it.
- If the window names 1.20.1 and v1.8 is not on offer, press Cancel unless the beta is what you want, then use the file route below.
- Leave Take a backup first ticked. Your current world is replaced by the pack's. Tick Start the server when it's ready if you want it to start itself, and tick I agree to the Minecraft EULA if the window shows it.
- Press and hold the Hold to Install and reinstall button until it fills, then watch the Console until the install finishes.
The Pack version menu and the Install your own pack card both need the updated Minecraft installer. If you do not see them, the 2.0 beta is the only version the Modpacks tab can install.
If v1.8 is not offered
Download the v1.8 server pack yourself from the pack's CurseForge page. The file is called Infinite_Origins_serverpack_v1.8(UNZIP).zip. The upload takes the server's current loader and Minecraft version, so open JAR Manager first and switch to Fabric and Minecraft 1.18.1. Upload a custom modpack or server pack has the steps for the Install your own pack card.
The v1.8 server pack zip holds everything inside one folder, with a mods folder and a config folder but no Fabric loader. The installer moves the folder up to the server's root and then installs Fabric for Minecraft 1.18.1 itself. The pack pins no loader version, so Fabric's installer uses its default, which is the newest loader version.
First start
Press Start on the Console tab. If the EULA has not been accepted yet, the panel asks you to accept it first. The server is up when the console prints a line containing For help, type. Your address is in the left rail under Server address. Connect to your server for the first time covers adding it in Minecraft.
The server files carry no server.properties, so the panel starts from a minimal one. After the first start, open the Config Editor to set things like Difficulty and Player slots.
Voice chat
The v1.8 server pack includes Simple Voice Chat. Its config/voicechat/voicechat-server.properties sets audio to port=24454, a separate port from the game. If your plan includes extra ports, add one under Settings then Network ports, set port in that file to the new number and restart. How to add an extra port explains the card.
If your plan has no extra port, the pack's Simple Voice Chat 2.2.32 reads a negative port as "use the Minecraft server's port", so port=-1 makes voice chat share the game port. Newer versions of the mod warn in their own config that sharing is strongly discouraged, because UDP on that port is also used for the server query by default and sharing it may crash the server, so treat it as a last resort.
Common problems
- A player cannot join. Check they run the same Infinite Origins version, either v1.8 on Minecraft 1.18.1 or the 2.0 beta on 1.20.1, then compare their mod list with the server's
modsfolder. - The install stops while unpacking. Your plan's disk may be too small. Check Disk Analyser, clear space and install again.
- The server crashes at boot. Find and read a crash report shows how to name the mod at fault.
Installing a pack reinstalls your server. If you have a world you care about, keep Take a backup first ticked.
