Set up the FTB Sky Adventures modpack server
Install FTB Sky Adventures 1.5.1 on a Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge server from the Feed The Beast source, with team and island notes, RAM and fixes.
FTB Sky Adventures is a large skyblock pack for Minecraft 1.12.2 on Forge, mixing tech and magic around the FTB Quests questing system. Its page says multiplayer support is built into the server files, with each team on its own island. The Modpacks tab installs the server from Feed The Beast's own source.
Checked against FTB Sky Adventures 1.5.1 on Forge 14.23.5.2860 and Minecraft 1.12.2, October 2026.
What the pack needs
- Minecraft 1.12.2, Forge 14.23.5.2860 and Java 8. These are the targets Feed The Beast lists for 1.5.1, the newest release. The panel picks Java 8 for any Minecraft version below 1.17.
- 4 GB of RAM. The pack's page lists 4 GB as both the minimum and the recommended amount. Compare that with your plan using how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and the Minecraft plans.
- The same version for players. They install FTB Sky Adventures 1.5.1 from the FTB App, Feed The Beast's launcher.
Install from the Feed The Beast source
- Open your server and choose Modpacks under Content in the left rail.
- Press the Feed The Beast chip above the search box and search for
Sky Adventures. Searches need at least three letters. If there is no Feed The Beast button, that source is not available on your account yet, and the steps below do not apply until it is. - Press Install on FTB Sky Adventures.
- If the window has a version dropdown, leave it on Newest that fits your server. The dropdown lists 1.5.1, 1.5.0 and 1.4.0.
- Leave Take a backup first ticked. If Keep my world, settings and player lists is shown, leave it unticked for a fresh start. If the window shows a note about your world in place of that tickbox, your world was saved by a newer Minecraft than this pack can open, so it is not kept, and your current world goes into the backup.
- Tick Start the server when it's ready if you want the server to boot afterwards, then hold Install and reinstall for three seconds. The install takes under a minute, and the console ends it with "Pack installed. Launch: -jar forge-1.12.2-14.23.5.2860.jar nogui".
CurseForge's newest Sky Adventures file, 1.5.0, has no server pack attached. This guide uses the Feed The Beast source, which provides a server installer.
How teams and islands work
The pack's page says players join an FTB Utilities team, or create their own, and are teleported to a new island with their spawn point set. Joining an existing team puts you on that team's island. The page adds that quest progress and inventory belong to the island and team, and when a player starts a new island or joins another team, their quest progress is reset and their inventory is deleted. The page also says there is no limit on team or island creation by default. Tell your players this before they switch teams.
For admins, the page says each island is centred in one region file, which makes troubleshooting and deleting old islands easy. Take a backup before you delete anything in File Manager.
First start
If you did not tick the start box, press Start on the Console tab and accept the EULA when the panel asks. The server is up when the console prints a line containing For help, type. Connect to your server for the first time covers adding the address in Minecraft.
Common problems
- A player cannot join. Check they run FTB Sky Adventures 1.5.1 on Minecraft 1.12.2. Join a modded server from your launcher has the steps.
- A player lost their inventory. The pack's page says it deletes the inventory when someone starts a new island or changes team. Restore from Backups if it was a mistake: Create and restore backups.
- The server runs out of memory. Watch the RAM card on the Console tab and the TPS reading in the left rail, then read Why is my server lagging.
- The server crashes at boot. Find and read a crash report shows how to name the mod at fault.
Installing a pack reinstalls your server and replaces its files. Keep Take a backup first ticked if the current world matters to you.
