Set up EnhancedEnchants on Minecraft
Upload EnhancedEnchants to a Paper server, let players combine enchantments past vanilla limits, and tune anvil costs and caps.
EnhancedEnchants lets players combine enchantments on an anvil to raise their level past the vanilla limit. The costs and limits are yours to set.
Checked against EnhancedEnchants 2.1 (Spigot, updated August 2026), whose page lists Minecraft 1.13 to 26.1 as tested, October 2026.
What you need
- A Paper or Purpur server. The plugin is published for Spigot, and both Paper and Purpur support plugins written for the Spigot API. The Plugins tab does not search SpigotMC, so you install it by hand from EnhancedEnchants on SpigotMC.
- No other plugin. Its page lists no dependencies.
The page lists 26.1 as the newest version it was tested on. If your server runs a newer Minecraft version, watch the Console on the first start.
Install it
- Download the jar from the Spigot page.
- Open the File Manager and double-click the
pluginsfolder. If it is not there, start the server once to create it. - Click Upload and pick the jar, or drag it onto the file list.
- Restart from the Console tab.
- Type
pluginsin the Console and check EnhancedEnchants is listed.
Try it
Combine two enchanted items or books that carry the same enchantment at its vanilla maximum, such as Unbreaking III, on an anvil. With the plugin installed, the result can go past the vanilla maximum: the plugin's page says it lets you make Unbreaking IV this way. Players with the enhancedenchants.use permission can do this; the plugin gives it to everyone by default.
Change the costs
The plugin saves its settings to plugins/EnhancedEnchants/config.yml when it first starts. Stop the server before editing. The keys from the plugin's page are:
max_repair_costis the highest level cost allowed for a combination before the anvil says "Too Expensive!". The default is 50.repair_cost_capis the most a player actually pays. If it is 30, no combination ever costs more than 30 levels. The default is 50.too_expensive_messagecontrols whether the plugin tells players when the client shows "Too Expensive!" even though the cost is within your maximum. The default is true.enchantmentslists every enchantment, each with its ownmultiplier, alimitfor its maximum level, anddisabledto stop it being obtained on an anvil.multiplierraises the cost for each level past vanilla. Making Unbreaking IV costs the vanilla cost plus the multiplier times 1, and Unbreaking V costs the vanilla cost plus the multiplier times 2. It sits under each enchantment inenchantments, and it is 10 for every one by default.log_errorswrites detailed error logs to a log folder for the plugin. The default is true.
Change settings with commands
You can also change the cost settings while the server runs. These need enhancedenchants.admin, which operators have by default. Run them in game or in the Console:
enhancedenchants maxrepaircost <number>enhancedenchants repaircostcap <number>enhancedenchants bookonbook <true/false>enhancedenchants bookonitem <true/false>enhancedenchants itemonitem <true/false>enhancedenchants reloadreloadsconfig.ymland answers "Config has been reloaded."
Common problems
- Nothing changes on the anvil. Check that the plugin is listed by
plugins, and that the player hasenhancedenchants.use. - Players see "Too Expensive!". Usually the cost is above
max_repair_cost. Raise that value, or lower that enchantment'smultiplierso the combination costs less. - One enchantment should stay at its vanilla level. Under
enchantments, set itslimitto the vanilla maximum level for that enchantment. - A YAML error stops the plugin loading. Read the Console log and correct the config file it reports.
Create a backup in the Backups tab before you change the limits, so you have a restore point if the new settings are not what you wanted.
The upload steps are the same as in Install Minecraft plugins on Paper or Purpur.
