Set up CrazyEnchantments on Minecraft

Install CrazyEnchantments on Paper, find its config files, hand out books and kits, set permissions and cap enchantments per item.

Updated 4 min read

CrazyEnchantments adds more than 80 custom enchantments to your server, along with the items that go with them: enchantment books, scrolls, magical dust, a tinkerer and ready-made kits.

Checked against CrazyEnchantments 2.8.1 on Paper 26.2, October 2026.

What it needs

  • Paper or a Paper fork. The plugin's FAQ says it is only guaranteed to work on Paper. Purpur is listed as supported. Your server needs a Plugins tab, so switch in JAR Manager if you see Mods or no tab (Change Minecraft server version or loader).
  • The right build for your Minecraft version. The current docs ask for Paper 26.x and Java 25, and the panel gives 26.x servers Java 25 by itself. 2.8.1 is the newest stable release and covers 26.1.2 and 26.2. Builds for 26.3 are marked beta on Modrinth. Older store builds cover 1.21.x, for example 2.7.2 for 1.21.11. The plugin's own pages disagree on the oldest version, so trust the versions listed in the store.
  • Nothing on the players' side. It is a server plugin only.
  • No required plugins. WorldGuard, EssentialsX, Towny and GriefPrevention are optional extras. The FAQ recommends LuckPerms and Vault, and says to use a Vault-compatible economy plugin such as EssentialsX if you need money. The docs' Economy Plugins page also lists XP_Level and XP_Total as currency types that need no plugin. The prices in config.yml default to Vault, so change each Currency: Vault line to XP_Level or XP_Total if you install no economy plugin.

Install it

  1. Create a backup in the Backups tab.
  2. Open Plugins, keep the Modrinth source chip selected and search for CrazyEnchantments.
  3. Click Install. If a Works well with prompt lists the optional extras above, you can skip them.
  4. Open the Console tab and click Restart, or Start if the server is stopped.
  5. Run version crazyenchantments in the console to see the installed version.

The store filters by your server's Minecraft version. If it finds no build, the version page on Modrinth shows which versions each release covers.

First run

On first start the plugin writes its config files into its folder under plugins. Open them in File Manager:

  • config.yml, Messages.yml and HeadMap.yml cover general options.
  • Enchantments.yml and Enchantment-Types.yml control how each enchantment looks and works.
  • GKitz.yml defines the kits, and Tinker.yml the tinkerer that recycles enchanted items.

Most options have comments beside them. After saving a file, run crazyenchantments reload in the console, or /ce reload in game.

Try it in game

Commands need permissions, so give your own account crazyenchantments.admin first (see Permissions below). Then try these.

  • /ce opens the main menu, and /ce help lists the commands.
  • /ce info [enchantment] shows information on the enchantments.
  • /ce book <enchantment> [level] [amount] [player] gives enchantment books.
  • /ce add <enchantment> [level] adds an enchantment to the item in your hand.
  • /tinker, /blacksmith and /gkitz open the tinkerer, the blacksmith and the kit menu.

Permissions

Give players what they need through a permissions plugin (Set up LuckPerms):

  • crazyenchantments.player.* covers the player-facing features.
  • crazyenchantments.admin allows every command.
  • crazyenchantments.limit.5 with crazyenchantments.base-limit.1 caps how many enchantments a player can put on an item. Swap in your own numbers.

Common problems

  • Every enchantment fires every time. The FAQ says to check you are not an operator. Test from a normal account, or remove yourself from Operators in the Players tab (Whitelist players and set operators).
  • Items can be duplicated. The FAQ says to check you are not in creative mode.
  • The plugin will not load. Confirm the jar matches your Minecraft version, and read the start-up error in Download Log on the Console tab.
  • Enchantments lost their colour. Since 2.0.0 the name and colour are set through the Name: option, not Color:.
Warning

Items enchanted on version 1.9.9.3 or older do not work on newer builds. /ce updateenchants can convert enchanted items. Take a backup before you update.
