Set up a Create: Above and Beyond server
Install the Create: Above and Beyond Forge 1.16.5 modpack from the Modpacks tab using its CurseForge server files, then start and tune the server.
Create: Above and Beyond is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.16.5 built around the Create mod. Its CurseForge page says about fifty inventions lie between you and the moon, and that your factory's output programs a spaceship's guidance computer. You install the server from the Modpacks tab, using the pack's own server files from CurseForge.
Checked against Create: Above and Beyond 1.3 (the CurseForge file dated 15 December 2021) and its server pack, on Forge 36.2.20 and Minecraft 1.16.5, October 2026.
What the pack needs
- Minecraft 1.16.5 with Forge 36.2.20. The pack's repository names that Forge build in its
manifest.json, and the server pack carries the matching installer. The panel switches Java for you, which is Java 8 for this version. - Memory. The pack's page and its server files give no figure. Read how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and check the Minecraft plans before you install. The server pack's
modsfolder holds 136 jar files. - Disk space. The server pack is a download of about 148 MB and unpacks to about 174 MB. Both sit on your plan's disk while it unpacks, so allow about 320 MB free, plus room for the libraries the Forge installer adds. The Disk Analyser tab shows what is using space.
- The same pack version for players. This guide installs 1.3. Players should run that version from the CurseForge app.
Install the server files
- Open your server and choose Modpacks under Content in the left rail.
- Press the CurseForge chip above the search box, then search for
Create: Above and Beyond. - Press Install on the pack by simibubi. Look-alikes appear in the same results, such as Create: Above and Beyond NEW and Create: Above and Beyond, And Then Some!, so check the name and the author.
- The popup says it reinstalls your server with the pack and names Forge and Minecraft 1.16.5. If it offers a Pack version list, leave it on Newest that fits your server.
- Leave Take a backup first ticked, because your current world is replaced by the pack's. Tick Start the server when it's ready if you want it to start itself, and tick I agree to the Minecraft EULA if the popup shows it.
- If the popup shows Keep my world, settings and player lists, leave it unticked on a first install. When it is ticked, your existing
server.propertiesis put back over the pack's, and the pack's one setslevel-type=biomesoplenty, the Biomes O' Plenty world type the pack ships with. - Hold Install and reinstall until it fills, then wait for the install to finish. The install runs the Forge installer that the pack ships.
First start
Press Start on the Console tab. If the EULA has not been accepted yet, the panel asks you to accept it first. The server is up when the console prints a line containing For help, type. Your address is in the left rail under Server address. Connect to your server for the first time covers adding it in Minecraft.
Settings the pack sets
The pack ships its own server.properties, headed "Biomes O' Plenty Generator", and the install keeps it. It sets level-type=biomesoplenty. Leave World type alone in the Config Editor: its list has five choices (Normal, Superflat, Large biomes, Amplified and Single biome) and none of them is the Biomes O' Plenty type the pack ships with.
Other settings you may want to change in the Config Editor, then restart:
max-players=20is Player slots under Players.view-distance=10is View distance (chunks) under Performance. Lower it if the server struggles.motdis Server list message under World, and it starts as "An Above and Beyond Server".
Common problems
- The install stops while unpacking. The install message says your plan's disk may be too small for the pack. Free space in File Manager, or check plans.
- A player cannot join. Check they run Create: Above and Beyond 1.3 on Minecraft 1.16.5 with Forge.
- The server lags. Watch the RAM card on the Console tab and the TPS reading in the left rail. Why is my server lagging has more.
- The server crashes at boot. Find and read a crash report shows how to name the mod at fault.
Installing a pack reinstalls your server. If you have a world you care about, keep Take a backup first ticked.
