Set up the Cottage Witch modpack server
Install the Cottage Witch cosy magic modpack on a Minecraft 1.19.2 Forge server from the Modpacks tab, with server settings and voice chat notes.
Cottage Witch is a cosy vanilla++ modpack for Minecraft 1.19.2 on Forge. Its CurseForge page describes cottage magic as domestic magic in cooking, crafting and decorating, with quests that lead new players through the content. You install the server from the Modpacks tab, using the pack's own server files.
Checked against Cottage Witch 1.17.8 (the CurseForge file dated 19 July 2026, server files dated 5 August 2026) on Forge 43.5.1 and Minecraft 1.19.2, October 2026.
What the pack needs
- Minecraft 1.19.2 with Forge 43.5.1. The server files' start script names Forge 43.5.0 and says Minecraft 1.19 needs Java 17. The pack's CurseForge file was made on Forge 43.5.1, and the install uses that build. The panel runs 1.19.2 on Java 17 and picks it for you.
- Memory. The CurseForge page suggests 6 to 8 GB of RAM for a player's own computer. For servers it only repeats its hosting partner's sizing, 4 GB for 5 or fewer players and 8 GB for under 10. Your plan sets the RAM, so read how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and check the Minecraft plans before you install.
- Disk space. The server files are a download of about 389 MB and unpack to about 467 MB. The download sits on your plan's disk while it unpacks, so you need room for both.
- The same pack version for players. Players need the same version your server installs. This guide was checked against 1.17.8. The page says the 1.18 version is no longer supported.
Install the server
- Open your server and choose Modpacks under Content in the left rail.
- In the search card, press the CurseForge button in the row of sources, then search for
Cottage Witch. - Press Install on Cottage Witch. A lighter remix, Cottage Witch: Recast, is a different pack.
- The popup says it reinstalls your server with the pack and names Forge and Minecraft 1.19.2.
- Leave Take a backup first ticked. Your current world is replaced by the pack's. Tick Start the server when it's ready if you want it to start itself. Once that is ticked, an I agree to the Minecraft EULA box may appear if the EULA has not been accepted yet, and you tick it too.
- Hold Install and reinstall until it fills, then wait for the install to finish.
The server files hold the mods and configs but no Forge. Their readme says to run startserver.bat or startserver.sh on your own computer before uploading to a host, and that script downloads Forge 43.5.0. The panel does not run that script. Instead the install adds Forge itself, using the build the pack's CurseForge file was made on, which is Forge 43.5.1, a newer build than the 43.5.0 in the script.
First start
Press Start on the Console tab. If the EULA has not been accepted yet, the panel asks you to accept it first. The server is up when the console prints a line containing For help, type. Your address is in the left rail with a copy button beside it. The Server address label shows on wide screens only. Connect to your server for the first time covers adding it in Minecraft.
The pack's own script creates a server.properties with allow-flight=true and max-tick-time=-1 when none exists. The panel does not run that script. Open the Config Editor and set Allow flight under Gameplay and Watchdog timeout (ms) under Performance to match.
Voice chat
The pack includes Simple Voice Chat. Its config/voicechat/voicechat-server.properties sets audio to port=24454, a separate port from the game. If your plan includes extra ports, add one under Settings then Network ports, set port in that file to the new number and restart. How to add an extra port explains the card.
Common problems
- A player cannot join. Check they run the same Cottage Witch version as the server, on Minecraft 1.19.2 with Forge, then compare their mod list with the server's
modsfolder. - The install stops while unpacking. Your plan's disk may be too small. Check Disk Analyser, clear space and install again.
- The server lags or runs out of memory. Watch the RAM card on the Console tab and the TPS reading in the left rail. Why is my server lagging has more.
- The server crashes at boot. Find and read a crash report shows how to name the mod at fault. The pack takes bug reports on its GitHub page.
Installing a pack reinstalls your server. If you have a world you care about, keep Take a backup first ticked.
