Install VillagersPlus on your server

VillagersPlus, by Finallion, adds five new villager professions, each with its own trades and a workstation block. It runs on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, and it needs a library mod called VillagersTradingPlus to work.

Checked against VillagersPlus 4.0.0 with VillagersTradingPlus 1.0.0 on NeoForge 1.21.1, October 2026.

What it adds

The project lists these professions and workstations:

• Horticulturist: the Flower Tub, which holds flowers, saplings and other small plants.
• Oceanographer: the Aquarium, which holds sea plants and one bucketable creature.
• Alchemist: the Alchemist Table, which turns a potion and empty bottles into random potions.
• Occultist: the Enchanted Basin, which stores experience.
• Miner: the Ore Grinder, a furnace-style ore doubler with a slot for a pickaxe.

A shaft runs down from each miner's house and, by default, ends in a real vanilla mineshaft. The miner's house generates in plains, savanna and taiga villages.

Pick the right build

Version 4.0.0 has a file for each loader and Minecraft version:

• NeoForge or Fabric, Minecraft 1.21.1: the Fabric file asks for Java 21, which the panel sets up for 1.21.1. The NeoForge file asks for NeoForge 21.1.0 or newer.
• NeoForge or Fabric, Minecraft 1.21.8: a separate pair of files.
• Forge or Fabric, Minecraft 1.20.1: the same 4.0.0 release.

To change loader or version, open JAR Manager under More, choose the loader under Server software and the version under Minecraft version, then press Apply change. Change your Minecraft version or mod loader has the steps. Switching reinstalls the server and keeps your world, so make a backup in the Backups tab first.

Install it

1. Open Mods under Content and keep the Modrinth chip selected in the source chip row at the top of the tab. The Game version filter starts on your server's version.
2. Search for VillagersPlus and press Install.
3. A prompt titled "Needs 1 more add-on" names VillagersTradingPlus, which the project says is the library that builds every trade in the mod. On Fabric the prompt says "Needs 2 more add-ons" and adds Fabric API. Press Install all.
4. Restart from the Console tab. The install toast says "Restart the server to load them".

Open the Installed view to check. VillagersPlus and VillagersTradingPlus should both be listed with no Failed to load badge. Without VillagersTradingPlus the project says the game will not start.

Players need it too

Modrinth lists VillagersPlus as required on both the client and the server, so each player installs the same version for their loader and Minecraft version, plus VillagersTradingPlus. Settings

VillagersPlus writes its settings to config/villagersplus/villagersplus-4.0-config.json5. The keys a server owner is likely to touch:

• can_explode (true) and explosion_chance (3, meaning a 1 in 3 chance that the table does not explode) control the alchemist's explosion.
• max_exp_amount (500) and exp_amount (50) set how much experience the Enchanted Basin holds and moves per use.
• ore_grinder_output_multiplier (1.0), ore_grinder_fortune_enabled (true) and ore_grinder_pickaxe_damage (3) tune the Ore Grinder.
• mineshaft_connects_to_vanilla_mineshaft (true) and a weight for each house in each village type, such as plains_miner_weight (25), control world generation.

Trade counts, price scaling and trade changes through datapacks belong to VillagersTradingPlus and its own config. Stop the server before you edit a file in the File Manager. The mod's house weights are world generation settings, so new houses appear in villages that generate after you add the mod.

Updating

Open the Installed view. The panel checks for newer builds by itself. If it finds any, a row shows an Update button and the top button reads Update all (N), which asks you to confirm. Press one, then restart. Update both VillagersPlus and VillagersTradingPlus together.

Common problems

• The server stops at startup: VillagersTradingPlus is missing or disabled. Install it and restart.
• No results for your version: 4.0.0 covers 1.20.1, 1.21.1 and 1.21.8. Change the version in JAR Manager.
