Install More Villagers on your server

Install More Villagers 8.2.1 on a NeoForge server from CurseForge, see its eight professions and workstations, and tune village houses.

Updated 3 min read

More Villagers, by SameDifferent, adds eight new villager professions. Each has its own workstation block and trades. Five of them (Forester, Oceanographer, Florist, Hunter and Engineer) also have a house that can generate in villages. The current builds are for NeoForge, and the Forge build this guide covers is for Minecraft 1.20.1. This guide installs it from the Mods tab and covers what players need.

Checked against More Villagers 8.2.1 on NeoForge for Minecraft 26.3, October 2026.

What it adds

The 8.2.1 file's language data names these professions and workstation blocks:

  • Oceanographer: Oceanography Table.
  • Netherologist: Decayed Workbench.
  • Forester: Forestry Bench.
  • Enderologist: Purpur Altar.
  • Engineer: Blueprint Table.
  • Florist: Gardening Table.
  • Hunter: Hunting Post.
  • Miner: Mining Bench.

The CurseForge page lists the trades for each. Some map trades are only offered in the right dimension, such as the Netherologist's Nether Fortress Map, which is sold only when the villager is in the Nether.

Pick the right build

CurseForge lists NeoForge files for each of these:

  • Minecraft 26.3: More Villagers 8.2.1.
  • Minecraft 26.2: 8.1.0.
  • Minecraft 26.1, 26.1.1 and 26.1.2: 8.0.0.
  • Minecraft 1.21.11: 7.0.0.
  • Minecraft 1.21.1: 6.0.0.

Forge on Minecraft 1.20.1 has 5.0.0, which CurseForge also tags for NeoForge. There is no Fabric or Quilt file.

To change loader or version, open JAR Manager under More, choose NeoForge under Server software and the version under Minecraft version, then press Apply change. The panel picks the Java version for you. Switching reinstalls the server and keeps your world, so make a backup in the Backups tab first. Change your Minecraft version or mod loader has the full steps.

Install it

The author says the CurseForge page is the only place the mod may be hosted, and Modrinth has other projects with the same name, so use CurseForge.

  1. Open Mods under Content and press the CurseForge chip.
  2. Search for More Villagers. The Game version filter starts on your server's version. Press Install on the result by SameDifferent.
  3. Restart from the Console tab. The install toast says "Restart the server to load it".

CurseForge lists no required dependency for the mod, so there is no extra prompt. Open the Installed view to check that More Villagers is listed with no Failed to load badge.

Players need it too

CurseForge tags the 26.3 and 1.20.1 files as Client and Server, and the mod's metadata marks its NeoForge or Forge requirement as needed on both sides. Each player installs the same version for their loader and Minecraft version. Join a modded server from your launcher covers the player side, and Fix the mismatched mod channel list error explains a refusal when versions differ.

Settings

The mod has one config. It switches house generation on or off per village type with generatePlainsHouses, generateTaigaHouses, generateSavannaHouses, generateSnowyHouses and generateDesertHouses, in a houses section. A weights section sets how often each house spawns: woodworkerHouseWeight (the Forester), oceanographerHouseWeight, floristHouseWeight, hunterHouseWeight and engineerHouseWeight. On NeoForge for Minecraft 26.3 the file is morevillagers-synced.toml, and it is written to your config folder once the server has started. The Forge 1.20.1 build was not checked, so its file name may differ. Stop the server before you edit it in the File Manager.

To change what the villagers trade, the author recommends the separate VillagerConfig mod.

Common problems

  • No results for your version: More Villagers has no Fabric build, and each Minecraft version above has its own file. Change the version in JAR Manager.
  • The server stops at startup: the file does not match your loader or Minecraft version. Fix mod and plugin errors on Minecraft covers reading the Console log.
