Install Towns and Towers on your server

Add Towns and Towers 1.13.12 or 1.13.11 to a Fabric or NeoForge server with Cristel Lib to get new villages, outposts and ships.

Updated 3 min read

Towns and Towers adds new villages, pillager outposts and ships to your world. The buildings are more detailed than the vanilla ones, and many take their style from real architecture. Modrinth lists it as required on the server and optional on the client, so players do not need to install it.

Checked against Towns and Towers 1.13.11 on NeoForge with Minecraft 1.21.1, October 2026.

Pick the right build

Modrinth lists the current builds for Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt, and they share one jar. Which version you pick follows your Minecraft version:

  • Minecraft 26.3: Towns and Towers 1.13.12, which asks for Minecraft 26.3 or newer.
  • Minecraft 26.1 and 26.2: 1.13.11.
  • Minecraft 1.21.1: 1.13.11.

Older Minecraft versions have older builds, back to 1.18.2. Forge has builds too, but the newest one targets 1.20.4, so Forge is an option only on older versions.

To change loader or version, open JAR Manager under More, choose the loader under Server software and the version under Minecraft version, then press Apply change. Change your Minecraft version or mod loader has the full steps. Switching reinstalls the server and keeps your world, but make a backup first in the Backups tab.

What it needs

Towns and Towers 1.13.12 asks for Cristel Lib 3.1.12 or newer. On Fabric it also asks for Fabric API. Cristel Lib's own Modrinth page lists Cloth Config API as required, and Fabric API on Fabric.

Install it

  1. Open Mods under Content and keep the Modrinth chip selected in the source chip row at the top of the tab. The Game version filter starts on your server's version.
  2. Search for Towns and Towers. Choose Towns and Towers by Biban_Auriu.
  3. Press Install. When the panel asks about missing add-ons, press Install all.
  4. If Cristel Lib or Cloth Config API is not in the Installed view afterwards, search for it and install it the same way.
  5. Restart from the Console tab.

Using it on an existing world

Adding Towns and Towers to a world that already exists is safe, according to the project. The new structures only generate in chunks that are created after the install. To see the new ones, head for terrain that has not generated yet. The project also advises making backups before you update the mod.

The project says it does not modify existing vanilla structures. It should also be compatible with most world generation mods, such as Terralith and Biomes O' Plenty.

Tip

To find a snowy taiga village, stand in the game as an operator and run /locate structure towns_and_towers:village_snowy_taiga. The project documents this format for 1.19 and newer, and the same namespace holds its other structures.

Players

Modrinth lists Towns and Towers as server required and client optional, so players join with a normal game.

Common problems

  • No new villages appear: you are in terrain that generated before the install. Travel to fresh chunks.
  • The server stops at startup: open the Console and read the last lines. A missing Cristel Lib or Fabric API is the usual cause. Fix mod and plugin errors on Minecraft covers reading the log.
  • Some structures can't be located: the project says structures whose names carry an "exclusives" tag need one of the mods Towns and Towers is paired with.
