Install Tom's Simple Storage on your server
Install Tom's Simple Storage 2.12 on a NeoForge or Fabric 26.3 server, add Fabric API where needed, and find the range settings and fixes.
Tom's Simple Storage is a vanilla-style storage mod by tom5454. It adds a Storage and Crafting Terminal, an Inventory Connector, an Open Crate, a Wireless terminal, filtered connectors and an Inventory Hopper. It needs to be on the server and in each player's game.
Checked against Tom's Simple Storage 2.12.2 on Fabric 26.3, October 2026. The NeoForge build, 2.12.3, was not run on a server.
Pick the right build
The mod has a separate file for each loader and Minecraft version:
- NeoForge or Fabric, Minecraft 26.3: the newest builds, 2.12.3 and 2.12.2. The panel runs 26.x on Java 25. The Fabric file asks for Fabric Loader 0.7.4 or newer and Fabric API 0.145.3 or newer. The NeoForge file asks for NeoForge 26.3.0.37-beta or newer.
- NeoForge or Fabric, Minecraft 1.21.1: version 2.4.2.
- Forge, Minecraft 1.20.1: version 1.7.1.
Quilt servers load Fabric mods, so the Fabric file is the one to use there. To change loader or version, open JAR Manager under More, choose the loader under Server software and the version under Minecraft version, then press Apply change. Change your Minecraft version or mod loader has the steps. Switching reinstalls the server and keeps your world, so make a backup in the Backups tab first.
Install it
- On Fabric, install Fabric API first. Open Mods under Content, keep the Modrinth chip selected in the source chip row at the top of the tab, search for
Fabric APIand press Install. The store doesn't prompt for it, because Modrinth doesn't list it for this mod. - Search for
Tom's Simple Storage. The Game version filter starts on your server's version. Press Install on Tom's Simple Storage Mod. - If a Works well with prompt appears, it lists optional extras, such as JEI or EMI, all unticked. Leave them unticked and press the button that reads "Install Tom's Simple Storage Mod only". If no prompt appears, the install goes straight through.
- Restart from the Console tab. The install toast says "Restart the server to load it".
Open the Installed view to check. The mod should be listed with no Failed to load badge. The Fabric file carries Cloth Config inside itself, so nothing else is needed for that.
Players need it too
Modrinth lists the mod as required on both the client and the server. Each player installs the same version for their loader and Minecraft version. Join a modded server from your launcher covers the player side, and Fix the mismatched mod channel list error explains a refusal when versions differ. The project adds that on Fabric, Indium is required if a player has Sodium installed.
Settings
The options that matter on a server cover how far connectors and terminals reach:
- NeoForge:
toms_storage-server.tomlholdsinventoryConnectorRange(16 by default, from 4 to 256),wirelessReach(16, from 4 to 64),advWirelessRange(64, from 16 to 512),runMultithreaded(true) andbasicHopperCooldown(10). The mod's own notice says this file is per world and sits in the world'sserverconfigfolder, and NeoForge's documentation says a copy there overrides one inconfig. Block and mod ignore lists are intoms_storage-common.toml. - Fabric:
config/toms_storage.jsonholdsinvConnectorScanRange(16),wirelessRange(16),advWirelessRange(64) andbasicHopperCooldown(10). ItsblockedBlockslist ships withcreate:beltin it.
Stop the server before you edit a file in the File Manager.
Updating
Open the Installed view. The panel checks for newer builds by itself. If it finds any, a row shows an Update button and the top button reads Update all (N), which asks you to confirm. Press one, then restart. Make a backup in the Backups tab first.
Common problems
- No results for your version: the mod has no build for that loader and Minecraft version. Change them in JAR Manager.
- The server stops at startup on Fabric: the Fabric file declares Fabric API as a requirement. Install it and restart.
- Players are refused when they join: their loader or mod version doesn't match yours.
- Other crashes: Fix mod and plugin errors on Minecraft covers reading the Console log.
