Install Rustic on your Forge 1.12.2 server
Install Rustic 1.2.0 on a Forge 1.12.2 server, the only version it supports, then craft the Almanac and review rustic.cfg.
Rustic is a medieval-themed mod about decoration, farming, bees and brewing. Modrinth summarises it as bees, a new alchemy system, a few crops, alcoholic drinks with unique effects, some new trees, plenty of decorative blocks and an in-game guidebook. It is an old mod: the only build is for Minecraft 1.12.2 on Forge, so the server has to run that version.
Checked against Rustic 1.2.0 on Forge 1.12.2, October 2026.
What you need
- Forge on Minecraft 1.12.2. Modrinth lists Rustic 1.2.0 for Forge 1.12.2 only. There are no Fabric or NeoForge builds, and the project page says the mod is on 1.12 only.
- Nothing else. The jar's
mcmod.infolists no required dependencies. Dynamic Trees and Forestry are optional extras that Rustic works with if they are present. - Rustic on every player's game, on Forge 1.12.2. Modrinth lists it as required on both the client and the server.
The panel picks Java 8 for 1.16 and older, so you do not choose Java yourself.
Switch the server to Forge 1.12.2
- Open JAR Manager, under More in the left rail.
- Set Server software to Forge and Minecraft version to 1.12.2, then press Apply change.
- Leave Take a backup first ticked, press and hold Confirm & reinstall, and wait for the console to finish.
Your world is kept, but configuration files may be reset. Minecraft does not support opening a world on an older version than it was saved in and warns it could corrupt it, so if the world came from a newer version, start a new one. Change your Minecraft version or mod loader covers the switch.
Install it
- Open the Mods tab under Content and keep the Modrinth chip selected. The Game version filter starts on 1.12.2.
- Search for Rustic and press Install.
- Go to Console, press Start and accept the EULA prompt the first time.
Modrinth attaches two files to Rustic 1.2.0: rustic-1.2.0.jar and rustic-1.2.0-deobf.jar. The first is the one to run. If you install by hand with the File Manager or SFTP, put only that one in mods.
Start playing
The in-game guidebook is the Almanac. Craft it with a book in the centre of the grid, an olive above it and iron nuggets to the left, right and below. The project wiki says everything it documents is also in the Almanac, and that recipes show in JEI when that mod is installed.
Two blocks cover most of the farming and drink loop:
- A brewing barrel is made from wooden planks or slabs and iron. The wiki says a brew takes half a Minecraft day.
- A crushing tub turns solids into liquids, and the wiki says you jump on it to crush the items inside.
Change how things generate
Rustic writes config/rustic.cfg on the first start. Stop the server, open it in the File Manager, edit it and press Save. The settings include:
- World generation:
Nether Slate,Slate Veins Per Chunkand the generation chances for olive trees, ironwood, herbs and wildberries. - Bees:
