Install Realm RPG: Quests & Rewards

Add Realm RPG: Quests & Rewards 0.1.1 to a Forge 1.20.1 server by uploading its jar, since the store refuses it, with GeckoLib and Curios API.

Updated 4 min read

Realm RPG: Quests & Rewards is a Forge mod by NoCube that adds NPCs, randomly generated quests, new structures and random encounters. You find an NPC, talk to them and take a quest such as catching a fish, cooking a meal or hunting a mob. This guide covers adding it to your server and what players need on their side.

Checked against Realm RPG: Quests & Rewards 0.1.1 on Forge 1.20.1, October 2026.

Pick the right server version

The CurseForge page lists one Minecraft version, 1.20.1, and one loader, Forge. The newest file is realmrpg_quests-0.1.1-forge-1.20.1.jar, uploaded on 31 May 2024. It will not load on Paper, Fabric or a newer Minecraft version.

Open JAR Manager under More, choose Forge under Server software and 1.20.1 under Minecraft version, then press Apply change. The panel picks Java 17 for 1.20.1 for you. Change your Minecraft version or mod loader has the full steps. Switching reinstalls the server and keeps your world, so make a backup first in the Backups tab.

What it needs

The CurseForge page marks two required dependencies:

  • GeckoLib
  • Curios API

Install it

  1. Open Mods under Content. In the source chip row at the top of the tab, pick CurseForge, because this mod is published there.
  2. Search for Realm RPG: Quests & Rewards. Other mods use the Realm RPG name too, such as Realm RPG: Fallen Adventurers and Treasure Balloons, so check that the title reads Realm RPG: Quests & Rewards.
  3. Press Install. The store refuses this mod: the panel shows "Couldn't install Realm RPG: Quests & Rewards" with the message "Its author only allows downloads through CurseForge's own app. Download it there and upload it in Files." No add-ons window appears and nothing is installed, so GeckoLib and Curios API are not offered either.
  4. On your own computer, download realmrpg_quests-0.1.1-forge-1.20.1.jar from the mod's CurseForge page. In the File Manager, open the mods folder and upload the jar. Forge creates that folder on the first start, so if you can't see it, start the server once.
  5. Back in the Mods tab, pick the Modrinth chip in the source chip row at the top of the tab, search for GeckoLib and Curios API and press Install on each. The Game version and Loader chips start on 1.20.1 and Forge, so you only see builds that fit.
  6. Restart from the Console tab.

Open the Installed view afterwards and look at the mod and both dependencies. A Failed to load or Needs badge on a row means the last start's log reported a problem with it.

Players need it too

The page doesn't say whether the client needs the mod. It adds a Quest Journal screen and key bindings, and Forge registers key bindings only on the player's own game, so the safe choice is to give each player the same file, plus GeckoLib and Curios API. Join a modded server from your launcher covers the player side, and Fix the mismatched mod channel list error explains the refusal when mod lists differ.

First steps in the game

Travel until you find a new structure with an NPC inside, and talk to them to receive a quest. The page lists eight quest types: Delivery, Crafting, Hunting, Training, Fishing, Building, Destruction and Tillage. The fishing type is labelled Catching in the game itself.

  • J opens the Quest Journal by default.
  • K turns on the Quest Tracking Overlay while you have a quest.

Both can be changed in each player's key bind settings. On a server, quests are competitive: whoever completes the task first gets the reward. A quest also stops if its NPC dies, if another player finishes it first or if someone uses an Oblivion Potion on the NPC.

Settings

The project's page puts the quest definitions in config/realmrpg/quests in the Minecraft install folder, and says an Angler's quests come from angler.json. It also says a change applies to the next quest generated, not to quests already in progress. Stop the server before you edit a file in the File Manager.

Common problems

  • The server stops at startup: open the Console and read the last lines. Look for the mod named in the error, which may be this one, GeckoLib or Curios API. Fix mod and plugin errors on Minecraft covers reading the log.
  • The mod is not in the store: you are on the wrong search source or the wrong server version. Use CurseForge, Forge and 1.20.1.
  • Players can't join: the page doesn't say whether the client needs the mod, so compare their mod list with the Installed view and read Fix the mismatched mod channel list error.
