Install the Outvoted mod on your server
Install Outvoted 1.2.4 on a Forge 1.16.5 server with GeckoLib, then tune spawns and health for the Wildfire, Great Hunger and Kraken.
Outvoted adds mobs from past Minecraft mob votes that never made it into the game, according to its project page. The stable 1.2.4 release is an old Forge 1.16.5 mod with three mobs: the Wildfire, the Great Hunger and the Kraken. The page calls the first two the Inferno and the Hunger, but the mod's own config uses the names here. Every player needs the same mods on their own game.
Checked against Outvoted 1.2.4 on Forge 1.16.5, October 2026.
What you need
- Forge on Minecraft 1.16.5. Outvoted 1.2.4 is the newest release on Modrinth, published in April 2021, and it asks for Forge 36.0.58 or newer. Pick Forge and 1.16.5 in JAR Manager and the panel runs it on Java 8 for you.
- GeckoLib 3, version 3.0.14 or newer. The jar requires it, but Modrinth lists no dependencies for this file, so the install window will not offer it. Install it yourself first.
- Players. Modrinth lists Outvoted as required on both the server and the client.
- The 2.0 alphas. Modrinth also carries Outvoted 2.0.0 alpha builds with more mobs, for Forge 1.16.5 and Fabric 1.17.1. They also need Architectury and Cloth Config. This guide sticks to the release.
Switch the server to Forge 1.16.5
- Open JAR Manager, under More in the left rail.
- Set Server software to Forge and Minecraft version to 1.16.5, then press Apply change.
- Leave Take a backup first ticked, press and hold Confirm & reinstall, and wait for the console to finish.
The screen warns that configuration files may be reset. Change your Minecraft version or mod loader covers the switch in full.
Install it
- Open the Mods tab under Content and leave the Modrinth source chip selected. The tab filters to Forge and your Minecraft version for you.
- Search for GeckoLib and press Install on it. The newest Forge 1.16.5 file on Modrinth is 3.0.106.
- Search for Outvoted and press Install.
- Go to Console, press Start and accept the EULA prompt the first time. The server is ready when the console shows
Done.
Check the Installed view afterwards and make sure both are there.
To test it, join and run give YourName outvoted:wildfire_helmet in the Console. The mod's own page says the mobs are mostly working rather than finished, so expect rough edges.
This is a 2021 mod for an old Minecraft version. Take a backup before you start, and keep it away from a world you cannot afford to lose.
Change spawns and health
After the first start, Outvoted writes outvoted-common.toml into the config folder. Open it in the File Manager. It has one section per mob, wildfire, hunger and kraken, with these settings:
- Natural Spawning, on by default. For the Wildfire, the mod's note says it affects natural and spawner spawns.
- Wildfire Spawn Weight, defaulting to 1, and Spawn Weight for the other two, defaulting to 5 for the Great Hunger and 2 for the Kraken.
- Max Health, defaulting to 50 for the Wildfire, 20 for the Great Hunger and 40 for the Kraken.
- Restrict Spawning, on by default, keeps Wildfires to Nether Wastes.
- Biome Variants, off by default, tints Blazes and Wildfires blue in Soul Sand Valleys.
- Under the Wildfire's attack block, Fireball Count (17), Fireball Spacing (4 degrees), Explode (off) and Explosion Radius (0.5).
- The Great Hunger also has Maximum Stored Enchantments (5) and Maximum Level Increase Above Cap (1).
Press Save, then restart the server so the mod reads the file again.
Common problems
- The server stops at start and names
geckolib3. Install GeckoLib from the Mods tab, in the build for Forge 1.16.5. - It says GeckoLib is too old. Open the Installed view and press Check for updates.
- Players cannot join. They need Forge 1.16.5 and the same two files. Use Export for players in the Installed view of the Mods tab for a zip of what they need, then read Join a modded server from your launcher.
- Other load errors. Fix Minecraft mod and plugin load errors shows how to read the log.
