Install MrCrayfish's Furniture Mod

MrCrayfish's Furniture Mod is the classic furniture mod, started in 2011, with working furniture and a mail system for sending items to other players on a server. Its author has since replaced it with a rewrite, so the first job is choosing the right mod and Minecraft version. Players need the same mod in their own game.

Checked against MrCrayfish's Furniture Mod 6.3.2 on Forge 1.12.2 and 7.0.0-pre36 on Forge 1.20.1, October 2026.

Which version to run

The CurseForge page for this mod is now labelled Legacy. Its FAQ says development is set in stone with no new content, that newer versions are missing a lot of furniture, and that the 1.12.2 and older versions have all of it.

• Forge 1.12.2 has the full furniture set. The file is 6.3.2, a release, and it needs Java 8, which the panel selects for you.
• Forge 1.20.1 has 7.0.0-pre36, a beta from June 2023. It needs Forge 47.0.14 or newer.
• The rewrite is a separate project called MrCrayfish's Furniture Mod: Refurbished. It has Forge builds up to 1.21.1 (1.0.20 for Minecraft 1.20.1 and 1.0.22 for 1.21.1), plus NeoForge and Fabric builds, including 1.0.25 for Minecraft 26.2, and it lists Framework as a required mod. Install it the same way as below, by searching for that exact name, if you want the current version of the idea.

The rest of this guide covers the original mod. As a mod it can't run on Paper or Purpur.

Switch the server to Forge

Open Content in the panel menu and look for Mods. If the tab says Plugins or is missing, open JAR Manager under More, choose Forge under Server software, pick 1.12.2 (or 1.20.1) as the Minecraft version and press Apply change. Leave Take a backup first ticked and confirm with Confirm & reinstall. Change your Minecraft version or mod loader has the full steps.

Install the mod

1. Open Mods, keep the Store view and choose the CurseForge chip in the source chip row at the top of the tab. The Game version filter starts on your server's version.
2. Search for MrCrayfish's Furniture Mod and press Install on MrCrayfish's Furniture Mod (Legacy), by MrCrayfish. Similar names such as MrCrayfish's More Furniture Mod and MrCrayfish's Furniture Mod Rebuilt are other projects.
3. On the 1.20.1 build, a "Works well with" window may offer Catalogue, which CurseForge lists as optional. You can install it or leave it.
4. Restart from the Console tab. The install message says "Restart the server to load it".

Open the Installed view to check. The mod should be listed with no Failed to load badge.

Players need the mod too

Each player installs the same mod through their launcher, on Forge and the same Minecraft version. Join a modded server from your launcher covers it, and Fix the mismatched mod channel list error explains the usual refusal when lists differ.

First run

The jar adds mail boxes in several wood types, and the CurseForge page describes a working mail system for sending items and blocks to players around your server. Test it with two accounts before you tell your community.

Updating

The Legacy files have not changed since 2023 for 1.20.1 and 2022 for 1.12.2, so there is usually nothing to update. Click Check for updates in the Installed view if you want to confirm.

Common problems

• Nothing turns up in the results: the Legacy mod has builds from 1.7.10 up to 1.20.1 and none for 1.21 or later. On a newer server the results come back empty, so look at the Refurbished mod.
• The server stops at startup: open Console and read the last lines, then look in the Installed view for a Needs badge. Fix mod and plugin errors on Minecraft covers reading the log.
• Furniture is missing on 1.20.1: the Legacy page says newer versions are missing a lot of furniture. Use 1.12.2, or the Refurbished mod, which has a Forge 1.20.1 build.
