Install the MCHeli mod on your server
Install MCHeli 1.0.3 on a Forge 1.7.10 server as an unzipped folder, set its explosion and command options, or use the 1.12.2 fork.
MCHeli adds helicopters, planes, VTOL jets, turrets, UAVs and the items that go with them. It began as a Japanese mod by EMB4. The version on CurseForge is built for Minecraft 1.7.10 and installs differently from most mods, because it is a folder and not a jar. A maintained fork for 1.12.2 also exists.
Checked against MCHeli 1.0.3 on a Forge 1.7.10 server, and the MC Heli CE 1.5.1 jar and CurseForge page for Forge 1.12.2, October 2026.
Which MCHeli to run
- MCHeli 1.0.3 for 1.7.10 is the original, uploaded to CurseForge by Fureniku on 21 March 2017. The page says the uploader did not make the mod, has no control over an update to 1.12.2, and that the mod is closed source. It needs Forge 1.7.10-10.13.2.1230 or newer, according to its own readme.
- McHeli: Community Edition (MC Heli CE) 1.5.1 for 1.12.2 is a continuation of the same mod. Its CurseForge page lists Forge and "Client & Server", and its newest file is dated 29 August 2026.
The rest of this guide installs the original. The fork is covered in its own section near the end.
Set the server to Forge 1.7.10
Open JAR Manager under More, set Server software to Forge and Minecraft version to 1.7.10, then press Apply change. Keep Take a backup first ticked, then press and hold Confirm & reinstall for 3 seconds. The panel runs Java 8 for versions this old and picks it for you. Change your Minecraft version or mod loader has the full steps. Forge's newest 1.7.10 build is 10.13.4.1614, which is newer than the minimum MCHeli asks for.
Install the original MCHeli
The download is a .zip, not a jar, so the Mods tab store is not the right route. The mod needs its mcheli folder to sit unzipped in mods, because zipped assets cannot be read and the server would start with no vehicles.
- Download
MC1.7.10_mcheli_1.0.3.zipfrom the MCHeli page on CurseForge. It is about 75 MB. - Open the File Manager, go into the
modsfolder and press Upload files. Browser uploads are capped at 100 MB, so this file fits. - Use Extract here on the zip. You get a folder called
mcheli, plus aMETA-INFfolder the author says you can ignore or delete. - Delete the zip and the extra
META-INFfolder, so only themchelifolder remains inmods. - Restart from the Console tab.
Multiplayer
The readme says multiplayer is officially supported and asks you to back up the world before using the mod. Join a modded server from your launcher covers the player side of joining.
Settings and commands
The mod's readme names mcheli.cfg, and the mod writes it in the config folder after the first start. In multiplayer most settings follow the server's file. The readme answers the common server question like this: to stop vehicles and explosions breaking or burning blocks, set Explosion_DestroyBlock, Explosion_FlamingBlock and Collision_DestroyBlock to false, and set BulletBreakableBlocks to -. The mod page recommends turning off explosive damage on any server running the mod.
In-game commands use /mcheli. /mcheli list shows them all. Operators can use every command, and the server's CommandPermission setting can allow single commands to named players. /mcheli reconfig reloads mcheli.cfg without a restart.
The maintained fork for 1.12.2
MC Heli CE needs Forge 1.12.2, which you set in JAR Manager the same way. It is a normal jar, so it installs from the Mods tab with the CurseForge chip selected. Its jar declares ElegantNetworking and ModularUI as required, and its core plugin is built on MixinBooter, so install all three libraries too. ElegantNetworking has 1.12.2 builds on CurseForge, and ModularUI and MixinBooter are on Modrinth. The mod's jar points to config/mcheli.cfg for settings, and its CurseForge page says extra vehicle packs go in a mcheli_addons folder in the game directory, the same folder that holds config.
Common problems
- The server starts with no vehicles: the author says this happens when the mod is still zipped. Check that
mcheliis an unzipped folder directly insidemods. - The server stops at startup: read the end of the Console. Fix mod and plugin errors on Minecraft covers the log.
