Install Hybrid Aquatic on your server
Add Hybrid Aquatic 1.7.4 to a Fabric, Forge or NeoForge server with Hybrid API, GeckoLib and a Kotlin library, plus what players need.
Hybrid Aquatic, from Hybrid Labs, reworks the water side of the game. It adds new fish, sharks, crustaceans, otters and nautiluses, a new miniboss, and items and blocks such as diving armour, sea sponges, fishing hooks, crates, anemones and corals. It also improves rivers, swamps, oceans and undersea caves. Modrinth lists it as required on both the server and the client.
Checked against Hybrid Aquatic 1.7.4 on NeoForge with Minecraft 1.21.1, October 2026.
Pick the right build
Hybrid Aquatic 1.7.4 was published on 4 October 2026, and it comes as one jar per loader and Minecraft version:
- Fabric, Minecraft 1.21.1: needs Fabric Loader 0.19 or newer and Java 21.
- NeoForge, Minecraft 1.21.1: needs NeoForge 21.1.150 or newer.
- Fabric, Minecraft 1.20.1: needs Java 17.
- Forge, Minecraft 1.20.1: needs Forge 47.4.10 or newer.
Modrinth lists no build for newer Minecraft versions, and the project's FAQ says nothing before 1.20.1 will be backported. The panel chooses Java 17 or 21 for you from the Minecraft version.
To change loader or version, open JAR Manager under More, choose the loader under Server software and the version under Minecraft version, then press Apply change. Change your Minecraft version or mod loader has the full steps. Switching reinstalls the server and keeps your world, but make a backup first in the Backups tab.
What it needs
Modrinth marks these as required for 1.7.4:
- Hybrid API
- GeckoLib
- Lithostitched, on the 1.21.1 builds
- Fabric API and Fabric Language Kotlin, on Fabric
- Kotlin for Forge, on Forge and NeoForge
Trinkets on Fabric and Curios on Forge and NeoForge are optional.
Install it
- Open Mods under Content and keep the Modrinth chip selected in the source chip row at the top of the tab. The Game version filter starts on your server's version.
- Search for
Hybrid Aquatic. Other add-ons use the name, such as a Starcatcher compatibility mod, so choose Hybrid Aquatic by MysticKoko. - Press Install. When the "Needs" prompt appears, press Install all so the libraries come with it.
- Restart from the Console tab. The install toast says "Restart the server to load it".
Open the Installed view to check. The mod and its libraries should be listed with no Failed to load badge.
Players need it too
Each player installs the same mod and the same libraries for their loader and Minecraft version. Join a modded server from your launcher covers the player side, and on Forge or NeoForge Fix the mismatched mod channel list error explains the refusal when versions differ.
In the world
The mod changes world generation, so the new water features appear in terrain generated after the install, and, because a chunk that already exists doesn't pick up new world generation on its own, ground you explored before it keeps its old water. For a look at what the mod adds, see the project's Modrinth page.
Common problems
- The server stops at startup: open the Console and read the last lines. A missing Hybrid API, GeckoLib or Kotlin library is the usual cause. Fix mod and plugin errors on Minecraft covers reading the log.
- The mod is not in the store: the Game version filter follows your server. The current 1.7.x line has builds for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1 only.
