Install FTB Utilities on your server
Install FTB Utilities 5.4.1.131 and FTB Library on a Forge 1.12.2 server from CurseForge, then set ranks, claim limits and command switches.
FTB Utilities is a server management mod from the Feed The Beast team. Its CurseForge page lists chunk claiming, automatic shutdown and other server tools, and its own files show ranks, chat tweaks, home and warp commands and a trash can. The listing has files for Minecraft 1.12.2 and older only, so this guide installs it, with the FTB Library it needs, on a Forge 1.12.2 server.
Checked against FTB Utilities 5.4.1.131 with FTB Library 5.4.7.2 on Forge 1.12.2, October 2026.
What you need
- FTB Utilities (Forge) 5.4.1.131, published on 3 January 2021 for Minecraft 1.12.2.
- FTB Library, which CurseForge lists as a required dependency. The FTB Utilities jar asks for FTB Library 5.4.7.1 or newer, and the newest 1.12.2 file is 5.4.7.2.
Neither project is on Modrinth, so the steps use CurseForge. The project page also says that from version 5.3.0.83 backups moved to a separate mod, FTB Utilities: Backups. Use the Backups tab of the panel instead, as Create and restore backups describes.
Switch to Forge 1.12.2
Open JAR Manager under More, choose Forge under Server software and 1.12.2 under Minecraft version, then press Apply change. The panel picks Java 8 for that version. The switch reinstalls the server and keeps your world, so make a backup in the Backups tab first. Change your Minecraft version or mod loader has the full steps.
Install it
- Open Mods under Content and choose the CurseForge chip in the source chip row at the top of the tab.
- Search for
FTB Utilities. Press Install on FTB Utilities (Forge). - A prompt titled "Needs 1 more add-on" names FTB Library, which CurseForge titles FTB Library (Forge) (Legacy), so the full title may show. Press Install all. Leave any optional extras unticked unless you want them.
- Restart from the Console tab.
Open the Installed view to check. FTB Utilities and FTB Library should both be listed with no Failed to load badge.
Players need it too
The mod adds sidebar buttons and a Claimed Chunks screen, which live on the client, so a player only gets them with the mod installed on their side. Give each player the same FTB Utilities and FTB Library files for Forge 1.12.2. Join a modded server from your launcher covers the player side.
Settings
Forge 1.12.2 writes this mod's config to config/ftbutilities.cfg after the first start. The jar defines sections named world, ranks, login, commands, chat, auto_shutdown, afk and debugging. The commands section has a switch for each of these 21 commands: warp, home, back, spawn, inv, tpl, trash_can, chunks, kickme, ranks, heal, killall, nbtedit, fly, leaderboard, tpa, nick, mute, rtp, god and rec. In auto_shutdown, the times list takes HH:MM values and the jar's default list is 04:00 and 16:00. Check enabled before you leave it on, because a matching time shuts the server down. Stop the server before you edit the file in the File Manager.
Ranks and claim limits
The ranks section's enabled option turns on ranks and the permissions they control. The mod keeps rank data in local/ftbutilities, in files named ranks.txt and players.txt. The jar's language file names two limits you set per rank: ftbutilities.claims.max_chunks, the most chunks a player can claim, and ftbutilities.chunkloader.max_chunks, the most they can keep loaded. For both, 0 means disabled. If players say they cannot claim, look at the first one.
Common problems
- The server stops at startup: FTB Library is missing or older than 5.4.7.1. Install the newest FTB Library file for 1.12.2.
- Players cannot claim chunks: the claim limit for their rank is 0.
- Other crashes: Fix mod and plugin errors on Minecraft covers reading the Console log.
