Install Ender Storage on your server
Install Ender Storage 2.13.0.191 and CodeChicken Lib on a NeoForge 1.21.1 server, learn how colour codes link chests, and edit its config.
Ender Storage, by ChickenBones and covers1624, adds colour-coded storage that is linked through the End. Any Ender Chest, Ender Pouch or Ender Tank with the same colour code shares one inventory, even across dimensions. It runs on Forge and NeoForge and needs a library mod called CodeChicken Lib. This guide installs it on a NeoForge 1.21.1 server.
Checked against Ender Storage 2.13.0.191 with CodeChicken Lib 4.6.1.529 on NeoForge 1.21.1, October 2026.
Pick the right build
Modrinth lists these newest files, all marked release:
- NeoForge, Minecraft 1.21.1: Ender Storage 2.13.0.191, published on 5 February 2025. Its jar asks for NeoForge 21.1.72 or newer.
- NeoForge, Minecraft 1.20.4: 2.12.0.189.
- Forge or NeoForge, Minecraft 1.20.1: 2.11.0.188.
- Older versions: Modrinth lists older Forge builds for earlier Minecraft versions too.
To change loader or version, open JAR Manager under More, choose NeoForge under Server software and 1.21.1 under Minecraft version, then press Apply change. The switch reinstalls the server and keeps your world, so make a backup in the Backups tab first. Change your Minecraft version or mod loader has the full steps.
Install it
- Open Mods under Content and keep the Modrinth chip selected in the source chip row at the top of the tab. The Game version filter starts on your server's version.
- Search for
Ender Storageand press Install on Ender Storage. Other results, such as Iron Ender Chests and Simple Ender Backpack, are separate projects. - A prompt titled "Needs 1 more add-on" names CodeChicken Lib, which Modrinth lists as required. Press Install all.
- Restart from the Console tab. The install toast says "Restart the server to load them".
Open the Installed view to check. Ender Storage and CodeChicken Lib should both be listed with no Failed to load badge.
Players need it too
Modrinth lists Ender Storage as required on both the client and the server, so each player installs the same Ender Storage and CodeChicken Lib for NeoForge 1.21.1. Join a modded server from your launcher covers the player side, and Fix the mismatched mod channel list error explains a refusal when versions differ.
Using it
The project page describes three kinds of storage:
- Ender Chests are fixed in place. Use dye on the wool pads on top to change the colour code, or craft the chest with three dyes.
- Ender Pouches are portable. Use a pouch on an Ender Chest to copy that chest's colour code, and the pouch opens the same inventory.
- Ender Tanks work the same way for liquids.
Using a diamond on the latch of an Ender Chest moves it to a separate network for the player who used it. The page says this gives each player all 4096 colour combinations without clashing with others on a multiplayer server.
Settings
The jar reads ./config/EnderStorage.cfg, so the file appears in the config folder after the first start. The keys it defines include:
personalItem, the item that locks a chest to one player, minecraft:diamondby default.anarchyMode, which the jar describes as causing chests to lose personal settings and drop the diamond on break.item_storage_size, where 0 is 3x3, 1 is 3x9 and 2 is 6x9, with 1 as the default.
Stop the server before you edit the file in the File Manager, then start it again.
Common problems
- The server stops at startup: CodeChicken Lib is missing or outside the 4.6.0 up to, but not including, 5.0.0 range the jar asks for. Install the newest CodeChicken Lib for NeoForge 1.21.1.
- A player cannot join: a different Ender Storage or CodeChicken Lib version on their side can cause this. Fix the mismatched mod channel list error explains the message.
- Other crashes: Fix mod and plugin errors on Minecraft covers reading the Console log.
