Install Croptopia on your server

Install Croptopia 4.3.2 with EpheroLib on a NeoForge or Fabric 26.2 server from CurseForge, then find its crops, trees and NeoForge config.

Updated 4 min read

Croptopia, by thethonk, is a farming mod that adds 58 ground crops, 26 fruit trees and over 250 foods. Its newest builds are for NeoForge and Fabric on the 26.x Minecraft versions, and it needs a small library mod called EpheroLib. This guide installs it from the Mods tab.

Checked against Croptopia 4.3.2 with EpheroLib 1.3.0 on NeoForge 26.2, October 2026.

What it adds

The project page describes new crops, fruit trees with harvestable leaves, and a long list of foods to cook and eat. Since version 1.18, crops are found growing in the wild and are collected by breaking them. Right-click a fully grown crop to harvest it. For a tree crop, harvest two fruits plus a sapling and craft them together to make a fruit sapling. From 4.2.0, shears take the leaves off a wild tree crop at the growth stage you choose.

Croptopia has a guide book, crafted from crops and a vanilla book. It needs the Patchouli mod, which is optional. Recipe viewers such as JEI or REI show the recipes without it.

Pick the right build

Croptopia is published on CurseForge, and these are the newest files:

  • NeoForge or Fabric, Minecraft 26.2: 4.3.2. The NeoForge file accepts 26.2 only, not 26.3, and CurseForge tags both files for 26.2.
  • NeoForge or Fabric, Minecraft 26.1.2: 4.3.2.
  • NeoForge or Fabric, Minecraft 1.21.1: 4.2.4.
  • Forge or Fabric, Minecraft 1.20.1: 4.0.1.

Older Forge builds go back to Minecraft 1.16.5. To change loader or version, open JAR Manager under More, choose the loader under Server software and the version under Minecraft version, then press Apply change. The panel picks the Java version for you. Switching reinstalls the server and keeps your world, so make a backup in the Backups tab first. Change your Minecraft version or mod loader has the full steps.

Install it

  1. Open Mods under Content and press the CurseForge chip.
  2. Search for Croptopia. The Game version filter starts on your server's version. Press Install on Croptopia. Add-ons such as Croptopia Delight and Croptopia Additions are separate projects.
  3. A prompt titled "Needs 1 more add-on" names EpheroLib, which CurseForge lists as required. Press Install all.
  4. Restart from the Console tab. The install toast says "Restart the server to load them".

On Fabric the mod's metadata also requires Fabric API, and the 26.2 Fabric file asks for Java 25, which the panel sets for that version. CurseForge's dependency list does not name Fabric API, so search for it and install it before you restart.

Open the Installed view to check. Croptopia and EpheroLib should both be listed with no Failed to load badge.

Players need it too

CurseForge tags the Croptopia files as Client and Server, so each player installs the same version for their loader and Minecraft version, plus EpheroLib (and Fabric API on Fabric). Join a modded server from your launcher covers the player side, and Fix the mismatched mod channel list error explains a refusal when versions differ.

Settings

On NeoForge, Croptopia's source reads a HOCON config named croptopia_v3.conf. Its options include generateSaltInWorld, which switches salt generation in the world on or off, and a tree list that sets which biomes each fruit tree can generate in. On our test server, Croptopia 4.3.2 on NeoForge 26.2 wrote no Croptopia file to the config folder or the world folder after one start and a stop, so there may be nothing to edit in the File Manager. Check the config folder after your first start before you plan a change, and stop the server before you edit anything you find. The Fabric 26.2 build does not load this config file, so the options above apply to NeoForge only.

The official wiki says that on 1.18.2 and later, crop biomes are set by datapack biome tags under data/croptopia/tags/worldgen/biome/has_crop, with one file per crop such as has_crop/barley. Changing them takes a datapack, not the config file.

Common problems

  • The server stops at startup: EpheroLib is missing, or on Fabric, Fabric API is missing. Install it and restart.
  • No results for your version: make sure CurseForge is the selected chip. The 4.3.2 files cover only 26.1.2 and 26.2, so change the version in JAR Manager if yours differs.
  • Other crashes: Fix mod and plugin errors on Minecraft covers reading the Console log.
