Install Campanion on your server
Install Campanion 4.1.2 on a Fabric 1.19.2 server with Fabric API, or on Forge, and find its backpacks, tents and rope bridges.
Campanion, by TerraformersMC, is a camping mod. It adds backpacks, tents, sleeping bags, rope bridges and ladders, grappling hooks, spears, lawn chairs and s'mores. Its newest builds are for Minecraft 1.19.2 on Fabric and Forge. This guide installs it on a Fabric 1.19.2 server and notes what changes on Forge.
Checked against the Campanion 4.1.2 listing for Fabric 1.19.2, October 2026.
What it adds
Modrinth lists these features, and the project wiki has a page for most of them:
- Rope bridges and rope ladders.
- Grappling hooks. The wiki says right-click throws the hook and pulls you to it, and that you still take fall damage.
- Backpacks in three sizes, a 9-slot Day Pack, an 18-slot Camping Pack and a 27-slot Hiking Pack. You wear one in the chestplate slot and open it with the Open Backpack key, which the wiki says defaults to B.
- Tents, carried in a tent bag and placed with a preview. Sleeping bags, spears, lawn chairs, s'mores, skipping stones, leather tanning, howling wolves, flares and coloured campfire smoke.
The wiki pages date from 2020, so recipes may differ in 4.1.2. Check items in game with a recipe viewer.
What the server needs
Campanion 4.1.2 is published for Minecraft 1.19.2 only. The Fabric file requires Fabric Loader 0.11.6 or newer and Fabric API 0.37.0 or newer, and suggests Trinkets as an optional extra. The Forge file requires Forge 43 or newer and lists no other mod. The newest 1.18 build is 3.0.4 for Fabric.
To put the server on Fabric 1.19.2, open JAR Manager under More, choose Fabric under Server software and 1.19.2 under Minecraft version, then press Apply change. The panel runs 1.19.2 on Java 17 and switches that for you. Switching reinstalls the server and keeps your world, so make a backup in the Backups tab first. Change your Minecraft version or mod loader has the full steps.
Install it
- Open Mods under Content and keep the Modrinth chip selected. The Game version filter starts on your server's version.
- Search for
Campanionand press Install. - On Fabric, search for
Fabric APIand press Install on it too. Modrinth's dependency list for Campanion is empty, so no prompt will offer it. - Start the server from the Console tab, or press Restart if it is already running. The install toast says "Restart the server to load it".
On a Forge 1.19.2 server the same search installs the Forge file, and Fabric API is not needed.
Open the Installed view to check. Campanion is listed with no Failed to load badge, and the Console reaches its Done line.
With Campanion 4.1.2 the log also shows errors such as "Couldn't load tag campanion:tent_poles" and "Couldn't parse loot table campanion:blocks/tent_pole". The server carries on past them and still reaches Done.
Players need it too
Modrinth lists Campanion as required on both the client and the server. Each player installs the same version for their loader, plus Fabric API on Fabric. Join a modded server from your launcher covers the player side, and Fix the mismatched mod channel list error explains a refusal when versions differ.
Settings
Campanion writes config/campanion.json and has one option, trinkets_backpack_support, which relates to the optional Trinkets mod and is false by default.
A fresh Fabric server has no config folder and Campanion does not create it, so the first start logs "Couldn't save Campanion configuration file". Create a folder named config in the File Manager and restart, and campanion.json appears.
Stop the server before you edit the file in the File Manager, and restart afterwards.
Common problems
- The server stops at startup on Fabric: Fabric API is missing. Install it and restart.
- No results for your version: Modrinth lists Campanion for Minecraft 1.19.2 and older. Change the version in JAR Manager.
- Other crashes: Fix mod and plugin errors on Minecraft covers reading the Console log.
