Create a Skyblock Terraria Server
Make a Skyblock world in Terraria 1.4.5 on your PC, upload it with World Import, and see why it needs TShock rather than tModLoader.
Skyblock in Terraria is a special world seed, not a mod. You start on a floating island with very little and build outward. The seed is switched on when a world is created, so you make the world on your PC in Terraria and upload it to your server. This guide covers that, why it needs TShock rather than tModLoader, and combining Skyblock with other seeds.
Checked against the Terraria wiki's Skyblock and special world seed pages and TShock 6.2.1 for Terraria 1.4.5.8, October 2026.
What you need
- The TShock server. The Skyblock seed was added in Terraria 1.4.5.0. TShock 6.2.1 is built for Terraria 1.4.5.8, but tModLoader's current stable builds are based on Terraria 1.4.4, so they have no Skyblock seed. The Server software card on the Startup tab shows which one you run, and Terraria server getting started explains how to switch.
- Terraria 1.4.5.8 on your PC. Players join TShock 6.2.1 with the same version.
- No mod. The seed is built into the game.
Make the Skyblock world on your PC
The Seed (optional) box in the New world window of the panel's Worlds tab doesn't currently apply seeds on TShock, so make the world in Terraria instead.
- Start Terraria on your PC and create a new world.
- Type
skyblockinto the World Seed box, or press the seed icon beside it and switch on the Skyblock seed. The official Terraria wiki says the seed text isn't case-sensitive. - Name the world with up to 20 letters, numbers, dashes and underscores, for example
Skyblock. The file name becomes your server's World name. - Finish creating the world and quit Terraria.
- Upload the
.wldfile with the World Import tab. Upload a Terraria world to your server has every step, including where the file is on your PC. - Start the server and wait for the Console to say the server is online.
Our code installs the uploaded .wld as it is and doesn't rebuild it (lib/terraria/world-import.ts). Your existing worlds stay on the server, and the Worlds tab marks the one that loads on start.
What to expect
Re-Logic's 1.4.5 changelog describes Skyblock as a world without any ground, where you begin on a tiny island in the sky. The official Terraria wiki adds that a Shimmer island sits off in the distance, and that you start with few resources and build outward. The progression is different from a normal world, and the wiki's Skyblock page is the best guide to it.
Combine Skyblock with other seeds
The official Terraria wiki says typing a code into the seed box turns on a single special seed, because typing a second code switches the first one off. To get Skyblock together with others, such as Remix or Royale with Cheese, switch them all on in the Seed Menu while you create the world in step 2.
Use special seeds on your Terraria server lists the other seeds.
If it isn't Skyblock
- The world looks normal. Check the Worlds tab: if the uploaded world isn't marked Loads on start, press Switch to on its row and restart.
- Your old world seems gone. A world with the same name already on the server is kept and renamed with
pre-importand the date in its file name, never overwritten. Look for it in File Manager. - You run tModLoader. Switch to TShock, as the seed isn't in tModLoader's current builds.
- Players can't join. The game and server versions must match. How to join your Terraria server helps.
