Engram Points Per Level in ARK: Evolved

Set how many engram points each level gives on an ARK: Survival Evolved server, using OverridePlayerLevelEngramPoints lines in Game.ini.

Updated 3 min read

Every level a player gains on your ARK: Survival Evolved server hands out engram points to spend on the Engrams menu. That list of points is a setting, and it lives in Game.ini. The Server Settings tab does not have a control for it, so you add the lines by hand in the File Manager.

Checked against the ARK Wiki's Server configuration page, October 2026.

How the setting works

The key is OverridePlayerLevelEngramPoints. It is an integer, and it sits under the [/script/shootergame.shootergamemode] header in Game.ini, the same header the breeding settings use. The ARK Wiki's rule is that the option "must be repeated for each player level" on the server: the first line sets the points for reaching level 1, the second line level 2, and so on. If your server has 65 player levels, the line appears 65 times.

An example of how the start of the list looks:

[/script/shootergame.shootergamemode]
OverridePlayerLevelEngramPoints=8
OverridePlayerLevelEngramPoints=10
OverridePlayerLevelEngramPoints=12

Carry on with one line per level until you reach your last one. The numbers above are only an illustration, so pick your own.

Edit Game.ini

  1. Click Stop in the panel and wait until the server is offline. ARK warns to close the game before changing its ini files, because edits made while it runs are removed.
  2. Open the File Manager tab and go to ShooterGame/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/.
  3. Double-click Game.ini, or select it and click Edit. If there is no Game.ini yet, create a plain text file with that exact name on your computer and click Upload. How to manage your server files covers uploads and editing.
  4. Make sure the file has the [/script/shootergame.shootergamemode] header. Add it if it is missing, then put your OverridePlayerLevelEngramPoints lines under it, one per level.
  5. Click Save, then Start the server.

Typing 65 or more lines by hand is slow. Write them in a text editor on your computer, paste the block in, then Save.

Check the result

Join the server, gain a level and open the Engrams menu to see how many points you have to spend.

Tip

The count of lines has to match your server's number of player levels. If you have changed the level ladder with LevelExperienceRampOverrides, which sets how many levels players and creatures get, count again before you paste the list in.

Common problems

  1. Nothing changed: the server was running when you edited. The wiki says changes to the ini files are removed if they are made while the game is running. Stop first, edit, then Start.
  2. The lines are ignored: they are under the wrong header. This key belongs in Game.ini under [/script/shootergame.shootergamemode], not in GameUserSettings.ini.
  3. The Server Settings tab wipes the lines: it does not. Saving there changes only the keys it shows and leaves every other line in the file as it was.

For the rest of the common keys and how the two ini files differ, read ARK ini settings explained. On Survival Ascended the files sit in a different folder, covered in ARK: Survival Ascended server settings explained.
