ARK: Survival Evolved alpha creatures
Every alpha creature in ARK: Survival Evolved with its NPCReplacements class name, what patches 193 to 196 changed, and how to disable them.
Table of contents
Alpha creatures are bigger, stronger versions of ARK: Survival Evolved's regular creatures, and a server admin can remove any of them. This page lists the alphas ARK's wiki names, with the class name you need to switch each one off on your ARK: Survival Evolved server.
Checked against ARK: Survival Evolved 361.8, October 2026, using ARK's wiki and patch notes and the Ark IDs creature database.
What alphas are
The wiki's Alpha Creatures page says alphas arrived in patch 193.0 with the Alpha T-Rex, and that patch 194.0 added the Alpha Carnotaurus and the Alpha Raptor. The patch 193.0 notes call the Alpha T-Rex a rare, bigger and meaner T-Rex, and patch 194.0 says the alphas give four times the usual resources.
Patch 196.0 changed how they behave. It made alpha predators tend to appear only inland or in mountainous regions, made them always drop survivor inventories when killed, and cut their damage against stone structures by 80 percent. It also added the option that server admins use to disable them, covered below.
The alpha creatures
The wiki lists 21 alpha creatures for Survival Evolved, including variants. Twenty of them are named in both the wiki and the Ark IDs database, with the same class name.
The twenty-first, the Alpha Tridacna (AlphaCorruptTridacna_Character_BP_C), is listed only by the wiki, in its Survival Evolved changelog at patch 360.1, so its class name here is the wiki's. The second database lists the Tridacna by colour, with _Blue_C, _Green_C and _Red_C endings, so check which one your map spawns before relying on the plain name.
Disable an alpha
ARK's NPCReplacements setting removes or swaps a creature's spawns. Patch 196.0 gives the form for removing one: ToClassName left empty. It goes in Game.ini under [/script/shootergame.shootergamemode], one line per creature:
[/script/shootergame.shootergamemode]
NPCReplacements=(FromClassName="MegaRex_Character_BP_C",ToClassName="")
NPCReplacements=(FromClassName="MegaRaptor_Character_BP_C",ToClassName="")To swap rather than remove, give a ToClassName. The patch notes use a Dodo, Dodo_Character_BP_C, as the replacement for the Alpha Raptor.
Stop the server before you edit, because ARK writes its settings back on shutdown. The file is in ShooterGame/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/, and How to disable Ice Wyverns on your ARK: Survival Evolved server walks through the same edit step by step in the File Manager. The wiki says these options work only in Game.ini, so do not put them in Additional Arguments.
The wiki describes NPCReplacements as a spawn setting. To clear alphas already on the map straight away, run destroywilddinos in the Console tab afterwards. It removes every wild creature, so the map repopulates.
This list is for ARK: Survival Evolved. ARK: Survival Ascended is a separate game, so do not copy these lines into an Ascended server.
