Set up a New Game 2 server
Install the New Game 2 Forge pack on a Minecraft 1.20.1 server from the Modpacks tab with CurseForge's server pack, then start it and tune it.
New Game 2 is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1 by Lupin and TeamLUP. Its CurseForge page describes a pack that stays close to vanilla Minecraft while adding more than 300 mods for exploration, combat and survival, and says it is meant for playing with friends. You install the server from the Modpacks tab, using the pack's own server files from CurseForge.
Checked against New Game 2 - MC 1.20.1 - 43.2.0 (the CurseForge file dated 19 October 2026) on Forge 47.4.0 and Minecraft 1.20.1, October 2026.
What the pack needs
- Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge 47.4.0. The server pack's
variables.txtnames both, and the panel installs that Forge build for you. The panel picks Java 17 for Minecraft 1.20.1 on its own. - Memory. The CurseForge page recommends at least 8 GB of RAM, and more if many players join. Your plan sets the RAM, so read how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and check the Minecraft plans first.
- Disk space. The server pack is a download of about 1.06 GB and unpacks to about 1.14 GB. The download sits on your plan's disk while it unpacks, so you need room for both.
- The same pack version for players. This guide installs 43.2.0. Players should run that version from the CurseForge app.
Install the server files
- Open your server and choose Modpacks under Content in the left rail.
- Press the CurseForge source button, then search for
Adventure Without Limits. The pack's full name is New Game 2 - Enjoy An Adventure Without Limits. - Check the name before you press Install. Other packs, such as Project Infinity, can rank above it for this phrase. A search for
New Game 2also brings up New Game and New Game 3, which are separate packs. - The popup says it reinstalls your server with the pack and names Forge and Minecraft 1.20.1.
- Leave Take a backup first ticked. Your current world is replaced by the pack's. Tick Start the server when it's ready if you want it to start itself, and tick I agree to the Minecraft EULA if the popup shows it.
- Hold Install and reinstall until it fills, then wait for the install to finish.
Use the CurseForge source for this pack. The pack's Modrinth page says some content and optimisation mods cannot be added there, that FTB Quests is missing, and that server packs cannot be uploaded there.
First start
Press Start on the Console tab. If the EULA has not been accepted yet, the panel asks you to accept it first. The server is up when the console prints a line containing For help, type.
The server pack has no server.properties, so the install writes a short one and Minecraft fills in the rest on that first start. Your address is in the left rail under Server address. Connect to your server for the first time covers adding it in Minecraft.
The server pack already ships 46 client-side mods with .disabled added to their file names, Embeddium and Oculus among them. Leave those alone: they are switched off on purpose.
Tune it for a server
- Lower the view distance if the server struggles. Open Config Editor, go to Performance, change View distance (chunks) and Simulation distance (chunks), press Save changes and restart.
- Watch the cards. The RAM card on the Console tab and the TPS reading in the left rail show whether the plan is keeping up. Why is my server lagging has more.
Common problems
- A player cannot join. They need the same pack version, 43.2.0, and Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge.
- The install stops while unpacking. Your plan's disk may be too small. Check Disk Analyser, clear space and install again. Server out of disk space shows how.
- The server crashes at boot. Find and read a crash report shows how to name the mod at fault.
New Game 3 exists as its own pack. This guide covers New Game 2 only.
