Make a server pack with ServerPackCreator
Turn a launcher or CurseForge modpack into a server pack ZIP with ServerPackCreator, then install it from the Modpacks tab.
ServerPackCreator is a tool that turns a Forge, Fabric, Quilt, LegacyFabric or NeoForge modpack on your own computer into a server pack: the mods a server needs, their configs and start scripts, with client-side mods left out. You then upload the ZIP it makes to the Modpacks tab and install it on your server.
Checked against ServerPackCreator 9.3.1, October 2026.
When you need it
- A pack from Modrinth installs by name or as a
.mrpackfile, so it does not need this. - A CurseForge pack that already publishes a server pack installs from the Modpacks tab, which offers CurseForge as a search source. Install a CurseForge modpack on your Minecraft server has the steps.
- A pack you built yourself, or one that lives in a launcher instance with no server download, is where ServerPackCreator helps. Turn a client modpack into a server pack shows the manual route.
Make the server pack on your computer
- Download ServerPackCreator from its GitHub releases page. The Windows, Mac and Linux installers include their own Java. The plain JAR file needs Java 21.
- Start it. On the first run it offers a step-by-step guide, which you can reopen later from About, then Step-By-Step Guide.
- Browse to your modpack folder, then choose the Minecraft version and the loader from the lists. Check that they match the pack you play.
- Leave its automatic detection of client-side-only mods on. If it misses one, add that mod to the client-side-only list, in the Advanced section of the server pack config.
- Make sure it creates a ZIP-archive of the server pack as well as the folder.
- Generate the server pack, then find the ZIP-archive it wrote and note where it is.
ServerPackCreator's own advice applies: it does not guarantee a working server pack, so test the result before you rely on it.
If you run ServerPackCreator from the command line instead, its -cgen option reads the launcher's manifest to fill in the Minecraft version, loader and loader version: minecraftinstance.json for a CurseForge app instance, manifest.json for a CurseForge export, instance.json for ATLauncher, and mmc-pack.json one level above the game folder for Prism (minecraft) and MultiMC (.minecraft).
Install it on your server
- Open the Modpacks tab on your server.
- In the Install your own pack card, drop the ZIP into the box that says "Drop a .mrpack or a server-pack .zip".
- Leave Take a backup first ticked. Tick Keep my world, settings and player lists if you want to keep the current world, because otherwise the pack's world replaces yours.
- Press Install and reinstall, then hold the confirm button in the window that opens.
- Open the Console and watch the install. When it ends, press Start and accept the Minecraft EULA when asked.
Installing a pack reinstalls the server. Your console log is cleared as part of it.
What the installer does with your ZIP
The installer unpacks the ZIP into the server. ServerPackCreator leaves the Minecraft server jar out of its ZIP by default. When our installer finds no loader launcher in the pack, it reads variables.txt for MODLOADER, MODLOADER_VERSION and MINECRAFT_VERSION, then installs Fabric, Forge or NeoForge to match. A pack for any other loader can stop with an error.
If the install fails
A failed install shows an alert titled "The last install didn't finish". Press Show install log to read it, fix what it names, and press Retry install. The Last install log button in the Your packs card shows the same text later.
ServerPackCreator's detection of client-side-only mods is not foolproof, so a pack that installs but crashes on start can still have a client-only mod in it. Read the crash report to find which, then remove that mod with the File Manager. Find Minecraft server logs and crash reports shows where to look.
