Set up an InsaneCraft server
Install the official InsaneCraft modpack for Minecraft 1.12.2 from the Modpacks tab with CurseForge's server zip, and see how to reach v1.3.1.1.
InsaneCraft is a Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge modpack, the official pack from the InsaneCraft series played by SSundee, Sigils, Henwy, BiffleWiffle and JeromeASF. Its CurseForge page lists 250 mods and sets one challenge: obtain the Infinity Stones and become Thanos. You install the server from the Modpacks tab, which downloads the pack's own server zip.
Checked against InsaneCraft v1.3.0 (its server pack) on Minecraft 1.12.2 and Forge 14.23.5.2860, October 2026.
What the pack needs
- Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge 14.23.5.2860. The server zip includes
forge-1.12.2-14.23.5.2860.jar, and the panel launches it. For Minecraft 1.12.2 the panel runs Java 8 on its own. - Memory. The pack page lists 6 GB (low), 8 GB (better) and 16 GB (high) as recommended RAM. It does not say whether that is for playing or for a server, and the server zip holds 231 mod jars, so treat it as a guide and watch the RAM card. Your plan sets the RAM, so see how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and the Minecraft plans.
- Disk space. The server zip is about 759 MB and unpacks to about 836 MB. The zip sits on your plan's disk while it unpacks, so you need room for both.
- The same pack version for players. The panel installs v1.3.0, because that is the newest file with a dedicated server pack. The page says v1.3.1 is the last update to the pack, and the files for v1.3.1 and v1.3.1.1 ship without a server pack. Players need v1.3.0 in the CurseForge app.
Install the server files
Installing a modpack reinstalls the server and replaces the current world, so use a new server or one you can wipe.
- Open Backups under Essentials and press Create backup if the server holds anything you want to keep.
- Open Modpacks under Content in the left rail.
- Press the CurseForge source button, then search for
InsaneCraft. Check the row for InsaneCraft Modpack by SparkUniverse_, because the results also include lite versions and fan-made packs. - Press Install on that row. The popup says it reinstalls your server and names Forge and Minecraft 1.12.2.
- Leave Take a backup first ticked. Tick Start the server when it's ready if you want the server to start itself, and tick I agree to the Minecraft EULA if the popup shows it.
- Press and hold Hold to Install and reinstall until it fills, then watch the Console tab until the install log reports Pack installed.
Install v1.3.1.1 instead
If the install popup has a Pack version list, you can pick InsaneCraft v1.3.1.1, the final file. It has no server pack, so the panel reads the pack's mod list and downloads each mod itself, and the popup names any mods that CurseForge only hands out from its own site, with a place to drop them in. Modpack mods to download from CurseForge covers that step. Players then need v1.3.1.1.
First start
Press Start on the Console tab. The server zip carries no eula.txt, so unless you accepted the EULA in the install popup or earlier on this server, the panel opens Accept the Minecraft EULA first. The server is up when the console prints a line containing For help, type. Your address is in the left rail under Server address, and Connect to your server for the first time covers adding it in Minecraft.
The pack ships its own server.properties, and it sets allow-flight=false. Draconic Evolution is among the pack's mods. The Allow flight switch stops the anti-cheat kicking players who fly, which most flight mods need, so open Config Editor, turn it on under Gameplay, press Save changes and restart.
Common problems
- A player cannot join. Check they run the same version the server runs, v1.3.0 unless you chose another, on Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge.
- The server lags or runs out of memory. Watch the RAM card on the Console tab and the TPS reading in the left rail, lower View distance (chunks) in Config Editor under Performance, and move to a bigger plan if the RAM card stays full. Why is my server lagging has more.
- The install stops while unpacking. Your plan's disk may be too small. Check Disk Analyser, clear space and install again. Server out of disk space shows how.
- The server crashes at boot. Find and read a crash report shows how to name the mod at fault.
Installing a pack replaces the server's current files and world. Keep Take a backup first ticked.
