Set up a Forever Stranded server
Install the Forever Stranded Forge 1.10.2 survival pack from the Modpacks tab using CurseForge's server files and keep its bundled desert world.
Forever Stranded is a Forge survival modpack for Minecraft 1.10.2 by GWSheridan. Its CurseForge page puts you on a dry, hot planet after a crash: the first challenge is finding water to cope with the heat, the second is food, and quest lines lead you on. The page says the map is set on hardcore and that more lives come as you progress. You install the server from the Modpacks tab, using the pack's own server files.
Checked against Forever Stranded V-2.0.9 (the CurseForge file dated 30 March 2024) on Forge 12.18.3.2511 and Minecraft 1.10.2, October 2026.
What the pack needs
- Minecraft 1.10.2 with Forge 12.18.3.2511. The server pack's
variables.txtnames both. It contains no server jars, so the panel reads that file and installs that Forge build for you. It runs Minecraft 1.10.2 on Java 8, chosen for you. - Memory. The CurseForge page gives no figure. The pack's
variables.txtasks for-Xmx4G -Xms4G, but the panel writes its own launch script and sizes the memory from your plan, so those values are not used. They do hint at what the author expects, so read how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and check the Minecraft plans before you install. - Disk space. The server files are a download of about 131 MB and unpack to about 203 MB. The download sits on your plan's disk while it unpacks, so you need room for both.
- The same pack version for players. This guide installs 2.0.9. Players should run that version from the CurseForge app.
Install the server files
- Open your server and choose Modpacks under Content in the left rail.
- Press the CurseForge source button, then search for
Forever Stranded. - Press Install on Forever Stranded. Related packs such as Forever Stranded Hurt Edition, Lost Souls and Skies appear in the same results, so check the name.
- The popup says it reinstalls your server with the pack and names Forge and Minecraft 1.10.2.
- Leave Take a backup first ticked. Your current world is replaced by the pack's. Tick Start the server when it's ready if you want it to start itself, and tick I agree to the Minecraft EULA if the popup shows it.
- Hold Install and reinstall until it fills, then wait for the install to finish.
The world that comes with the pack
The server pack contains a world folder: the pack's desert map, with its quest data. The default world folder name is world, so the server loads it on the first start. The CurseForge page tells server owners to name the map folder world, in lower case, and the folder in the server pack already uses that name.
The server pack has no server.properties, so the install writes a short one and Minecraft fills in the full file on that first start. Leave World folder in the Config Editor as world. Changing it starts a new world, as the row's help text says.
First start
Press Start on the Console tab. If the EULA has not been accepted yet, the panel asks you to accept it first. The server is up when the console prints a line containing For help, type. Your address is in the left rail under Server address. Connect to your server for the first time covers adding it in Minecraft.
Tune it for a server
- Lower the view distance if the server struggles. Open Config Editor, go to Performance, change View distance (chunks), press Save changes and restart.
- Watch the cards. The pack lists more than 100 mods, including Tinkers Construct, Railcraft and Advanced Rocketry. The RAM card on the Console tab and the TPS reading in the left rail show whether the plan is keeping up. Why is my server lagging has more.
Common problems
- A player cannot join. Check they run Forever Stranded 2.0.9 on Minecraft 1.10.2 with Forge.
- The install stops while unpacking. Your plan's disk may be too small. Check Disk Analyser, clear space and install again.
- The server crashes at boot. Find and read a crash report shows how to name the mod at fault.
Installing a pack reinstalls your server and replaces the world with the pack's. If you have a world you care about, keep Take a backup first ticked.
