Set up RealMines on your Minecraft server

Install WorldEdit and RealMines, create a block mine with /rm create, set its resets and permissions, and fix mines that do not refill.

Updated 4 min read

RealMines is a plugin for mines that refill themselves: you mark out an area, tell the plugin which blocks to fill it with, and it resets on a timer or once enough has been mined. It is built for classic prison style mines. It runs only on the server, so players install nothing.

Checked against RealMines 1.9 and WorldEdit 7.4.6, both listed on Modrinth for Paper 26.3, October 2026.

What you need

  • A Paper or Purpur server, which shows a Plugins tab under Content in the panel menu.
  • WorldEdit or FastAsyncWorldEdit. RealMines will not work without one of them. Set up WorldEdit on your Minecraft server covers it.
  • Optional: Vault, so a mined block can pay money, and PlaceholderAPI for placeholders.

Install the plugins

The RealMines listing on Modrinth does not name WorldEdit as a dependency, so the store will not offer it for you. Install it first.

  1. Open the Plugins tab and keep Modrinth selected in the source chip row at the top of the tab.
  2. Search for WorldEdit, click Install, then open Console and click Restart.
  3. Back in the Plugins tab, search for RealMines and click Install.
  4. Restart again from Console. Plugins load only at startup.

On the first start RealMines makes a plugins/RealMines folder. It holds config.yml, language.yml, sql.yml, achievements.yml and a mines folder with one .yml file per mine, which makes mines easy to back up or move.

Create your first mine

Do these steps in game, as an operator, because the area comes from your WorldEdit selection.

  1. Select the region with the WorldEdit wand. Run //wand, left-click one corner and right-click the opposite corner.
  2. Run /rm create <name> blocks.
  3. RealMines lists the materials it found in the selection and asks in chat whether to add them. Type yes to add them all at 10% each, or cancel to start with plain stone.
  4. Run /rm mine <name> to open the mine's menu and set the reset mode, icon, colour and teleport point.
  5. Run /rm blocks <name> to set the percentage of each block.

Besides blocks, the type can be farm for a crop field or schematic to paste a WorldEdit schematic on every reset. /rm panel opens the main menu with all your mines.

Resets and settings

A mine can reset on a timer with /rm setcountdown <name> <seconds>, after a set share of it is mined, or by hand with /rm reset <name>. To reset several mines together, create a task with /rmrt create <name> <delay> and add mines with /rmrt link <taskname> <mine>.

A few switches in config.yml are worth knowing. Edit it in File Manager, click Save, then run rm reload in the Console:

  • teleportPlayers moves players out of a mine before it refills.
  • resetMinesWhenNoPlayers decides whether timers keep running when the server is empty.
  • disableMineResetOnServerStart stops every mine resetting when the server boots.
  • useWorldEditForBlockPlacement fills mines with WorldEdit, which is much faster on large mines.

You can also change most of these in game with /rm settings.

Permissions

  • realmines.admin covers every admin command and menu. Operators have every permission by default.
  • realmines.tp together with realmines.tp.<mine> lets a player use /rm tp <mine> for that mine.
  • realmines.reset allows /rm reset.
  • realmines.<mine>.break is needed to break blocks in a mine only when that mine's Mine break permission setting is on.

Common problems

  • The plugin does not load. WorldEdit or FastAsyncWorldEdit is missing or failed to load. Check the Console at startup.
  • Players are stuck in a mine when it refills. Check that teleportPlayers is still true, which is its default in the plugin's config.yml, and set the teleport point with /rm settp <name>.
  • Mines did not reset while the server was empty. resetMinesWhenNoPlayers decides whether timers keep running with nobody online, and it defaults to false. Set it to true if you want mines to refill on an empty server.
