Set up MythicMobs on your Minecraft server
Install MythicMobs, add a custom boss as a .yml file in the Mobs folder, reload with /mm reload, spawn it and fix the common errors.
MythicMobs lets you design your own mobs and bosses in plain text files: their health, damage, equipment, drops and skills. It runs only on the server, so players join with a normal copy of Minecraft.
Checked against MythicMobs 5.13.0, listed on Modrinth for Paper up to Minecraft 26.2, October 2026. The newest build on Modrinth and Hangar is 5.13.0, which is what the Plugins tab installs. The project's own changelog also lists 5.13.1, which had not reached either listing at that date. Modrinth lists no MythicMobs build for 26.3, so the store's version filter hides it on a 26.3 server.
What you need
- A Paper or Purpur server, which shows a Plugins tab under Content in the panel menu.
- A Minecraft version the listing covers. On a new 26.3 server that has no world yet, open JAR Manager and switch to Paper 26.2, as Change your Minecraft version or mod loader shows. We pick the Java version for you. Leave Take a backup first ticked.
- Nothing else. LibsDisguises, WorldGuard, Vault and PlaceholderAPI are optional extras that MythicMobs uses if they are installed.
If your world has already been loaded on 26.3, do not switch down to 26.2. The version-change guide warns that a world moved to an older Minecraft version can be corrupted for good. Wait for a MythicMobs build that lists 26.3, or start a new world on 26.2.
A paid Premium edition also exists. The wiki marks some commands, such as /mm items browse, as Premium only.
Install MythicMobs
- Open the Plugins tab and keep Modrinth selected in the source chip row at the top of the tab.
- Search for
MythicMobsand click Install on the MythicMobs listing. - Open Console and click Restart. A new plugin only loads at startup.
After the first start, the plugins/MythicMobs folder holds example files for every part of the plugin. Open them in File Manager to see how a mob, skill or item is written.
Make your first mob
Mobs live in .yml files in plugins/MythicMobs/Mobs. One file can hold as many mobs as you like, and subfolders are allowed. The first line of each entry is the mob's internal name, which must be unique. This one needs only a name and a Type:
SkeletonKing:
Type: WITHER_SKELETON
Display: '&6Skeleton King'
Health: 500
Damage: 10- Save that text as
SkeletonKing.ymlon your computer. - In File Manager, open
plugins/MythicMobs/Mobsand click Upload. Pick the file. - In the Console, run
mm reload. Without a reload, the changes do not apply. - In game, run
/mm mobs spawn SkeletonKing. The wiki shows an optional amount and an optionalworld,x,y,z,yaw, pitchlocation after the mob name, which is how you choose where it appears.
To change it later, open the file in File Manager, click Save and reload again. Skills, items, drop tables and random spawns have their own folders next to Mobs, named Skills, Items, DropTables and RandomSpawns.
Commands and permissions
/mm reloadreloads the plugin, and/mm versionshows its version./mm mobs listlists every loaded mob, and/mm mobs info <mob>shows one./mm mobs kill <mob>removes mobs with that name./mm mobs killallremoves all active ones./mm items get <item>gives you a configured item.mythicmobs.admingives full access, and operators have it by default.
/mythicmobs works in place of /mm.
Common problems
- The mob is not found. The name after
spawnhas to be the mob's internal ID, the top-level name of its entry in the mob file. Reload the plugin, then run/mm mobs listto check it loaded. - A passive mob vanishes when it attacks. A base passive mob cannot deal damage. The wiki suggests a hostile mob disguised as the passive one with LibsDisguises.
- Mob health above 2000. The wiki calls this a Spigot limit. Raise the
max-healthvalue inspigot.yml. - Where to read more. The plugin's own wiki covers every option.
