Set up MeteoritesPro on Minecraft

Upload MeteoritesPro to a Paper server, shoot meteorites with /mp, set per-meteorite config, and know its 2020 age before you rely on it.

Updated 4 min read

MeteoritesPro drops meteorites on your world as a server event. You choose the blocks they are made of, how big they are, how fast they fall and what commands and messages run when they launch or land, and you can leave a trail of particles behind them.

Checked against MeteoritesPro 1.5.3, the latest version on its Spigot page, uploaded 18 July 2020, October 2026. The page lists Minecraft 1.14 to 1.20 as tested.

Read this first

This plugin has not been updated since 2020. The 1.5.3 update notes say it added support for Minecraft 1.16.1, and the full recode it announced as version 2.0.0 has not appeared in the page's version list. The jar's own plugin.yml declares api-version: 1.14, and nothing we opened says it was tested on anything newer than 1.20, so treat it as untested on your version. Back up first, install it on a test copy if you can, and read the Console on its first start.

The notes for 1.5.3 also record a known bug: meteorites do not spawn at random in chunks that are not generated or loaded.

What you need

  • A Paper or Purpur server. Both run plugins written for Spigot, which is where this one is published.
  • Optional: WorldGuard, to create safe zones, and GriefPrevention, to keep claims safe. The Spigot page lists both.
  • The jar from the plugin's Spigot page, MeteoritesPro on SpigotMC. The Plugins tab does not search Spigot, so you add it by hand. The page's terms ask you not to redistribute the plugin, so download it from there each time.

Install it

  1. Download the jar from the Spigot page.
  2. Open the File Manager and double-click the plugins folder. If it is not there, start the server once to create it.
  3. Click Upload and pick the jar, or drag it onto the file list.
  4. Restart from the Console tab.
  5. Type plugins in the Console and check MeteoritesPro is listed.

The upload step is covered in Install Minecraft plugins on Paper or Purpur.

Shoot a meteorite

The plugin's command is /mp, and its in-game help menu shows the /mp shoot <name> syntax.

  • mp shoot <name> launches the meteorite you configured with that name.
  • mp shootrandom shoots a random one, inside the zone you set in the config.

They need the meteoritespro.shoot and meteoritespro.shootrandom permissions. Version 1.5.2 fixed a bug that let players without meteoritespro.shoot fire meteorites, so use 1.5.3 or newer. Give the permissions to a trusted group with a permissions plugin, and check the plugin's in-game help menu for the exact syntax your build accepts.

Configure meteorites

The plugin writes its config to plugins/MeteoritesPro/config.yml the first time it starts. Stop the server before you edit. Since version 1.4 you can define several meteorite types at once. For each one the notes list:

  • the chance of it appearing,
  • the block types of its core, inner layer and outer layer,
  • the size of the inner and outer layers,
  • a chat message and commands that run on launch,
  • its speed,
  • a clean-up interval, which removes the meteorite's blocks and its treasure after a set number of seconds.

As of version 1.4, treasure, treasure guardians, particles and explosion settings are not set per meteorite type. On Minecraft 1.15, a meteorite with an explosion power of 0 no longer keeps a round shape when it lands.

If you move from a version older than 1.4, regenerate the config, because the old files no longer work.

Common problems

  • Nothing happens on /mp shoot. Check the permission and that the name matches a meteorite in the config.
  • Meteorites land where they should not. The plugin integrates with WorldGuard safe zones and GriefPrevention claims; install the one you use.
  • The plugin fails on start. The Console names the error. If it is a YAML error, correct the config file it reports.
Warning

Meteorites explode and leave blocks behind. Run your first test in a world you can restore from a backup in the Backups tab.
