Set up Marriage Master on your server
Install Marriage Master from its GitHub release, let players marry with or without a priest, and set storage, config and permissions.
Marriage Master lets two players marry on your server and share a few extras: teleporting to each other, a shared home, gifts, private chat and a PvP switch between partners. It is a plugin, so it runs on Paper or Purpur. Its own listings are on SpigotMC, dev.bukkit.org and GitHub, so this guide installs it from its GitHub release, where the Plugins tab's wizard lets you choose between the three jars the release lists.
Checked against Marriage Master 2.9.4, which lists Minecraft 1.7 to 26.3 on its SpigotMC page, October 2026.
What you need
- A Paper or Purpur server. Vanilla servers have no Plugins tab, so switch software in JAR Manager first (see Change your Minecraft version or mod loader).
- Nothing else is required. Vault is optional and adds economy support.
Install it
- Open the Plugins tab and click GitHub.
- Type
GeorgH93/MarriageMasterand click Look up, then pick the newest release. - At the File step, choose
MarriageMaster-2.9.4-Release.jar. The release lists three jars. The Release build is the one published on SpigotMC and dev.bukkit.org, and it switches modes by itself. The plainMarriageMaster-2.9.4.jarneeds the PCGF PluginLib plugin installed as well. - Check the Review step and click Install. The wizard warns that nobody checks files on GitHub, so only install from a repository you trust. This one is the plugin author's own.
- Restart from the Console tab with Restart, then type
plugins. MarriageMaster should be listed.
You can also download the same jar from the plugin's SpigotMC page and upload it to the plugins folder with Upload in the File Manager (see Install Minecraft plugins on Paper or Purpur).
Let players marry
By default, Marriage.RequirePriest in config.yml is true. Two players cannot marry each other until a priest marries them. You have two options:
- Make someone a priest with
/marry setpriest <player>, or give them themarry.priestpermission. A priest then marries two players with/marry <player> <player>. - Set
RequirePriesttofalse. Players can then marry each other on their own, and/marry helplists the commands they use.
After you edit config.yml, run marry reload in the Console.
Players use /marry help to see every command their permissions allow. The common ones are /marry list, /marry tp, /marry sethome, /marry home, /marry chat, /marry pvpon, /marry pvpoff, /marry kiss and /marry gift.
Settings
The files are in plugins/MarriageMaster:
config.ymlholds the settings.Marriage.MaxPartnersis1,Marriage.Surnames.EnableisfalseandMarriage.AnnounceOnMarriageistrue.Gift.Enableistrueand gifts are limited to Survival players. Chat prefixes throughPrefix.Enableare off.- A language file such as
en.ymlsits next toconfig.yml. It holds every message, so you can reword them.
Edit them in the File Manager and run marry reload.
Storage
Database.Type is SQLite by default, which keeps the data in a file on the server. Leave it there. MySQL is an option in the plugin, but the panel has no MySQL database to point it at.
Permissions
Most player features are granted to everyone by default, including marry.list, marry.tp, marry.home, marry.home.set, marry.chat, marry.gift, marry.kiss and marry.accept. The staff nodes marry.priest, marry.setpriest, marry.reload and marry.update default to operators. To remove a feature for players, deny its node with a permissions plugin (see Set up LuckPerms). The wiki calls the wildcard marry.*. In the plugin's own plugin.yml it is declared as marry.everything, which grants both the user and admin groups, so grant marry.everything to a trusted admin group.
Common problems
- Players cannot marry.
RequirePriestis on and nobody is a priest yet. - The plugin needs PCGF_PluginLib. You installed the plain jar. Replace it with the
-Release.jarfile. - A setting has no effect. Run
marry reload, or restart the server.
The plugin's wiki lists every permission and its default: github.com/GeorgH93/MarriageMaster/wiki.
