Set up the FTB Interactions server
Install FTB Interactions 2.12.2 on a Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge server from the Feed The Beast source in the Modpacks tab, with RAM, first start and fixes.
FTB Interactions is a large quest-driven progression pack from the Feed The Beast team for Minecraft 1.12.2 on Forge. Its page calls it the largest and most ambitious progression pack the team has built, with GregTech: Community Edition as its backbone, and aims it at long-term play, including servers with teams. The Modpacks tab has a Feed The Beast source for this pack, and it installs and starts the pack.
Checked against FTB Interactions 2.12.2 (released in June 2025, the newest release) on Forge 14.23.5.2860 and Minecraft 1.12.2, October 2026.
What the pack needs
- Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge 14.23.5.2860 and Java 8. These are the targets Feed The Beast lists for 2.12.2. The panel runs 1.12.2 on Java 8 and picks it for you.
- Memory. The pack page asks for at least 4 GB of RAM and recommends 6 GB. Compare that with your plan using how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and the Minecraft plans.
- The same pack version for players. They install FTB Interactions 2.12.2 in the FTB App, Feed The Beast's launcher. Join a modded server from your launcher has the steps.
Install from the Feed The Beast source
- Open your server and choose Modpacks under Content in the left rail.
- Above the search box, press the Feed The Beast chip and search for
Interactions. Searches need at least three letters. If there is no Feed The Beast chip, that source is not switched on for your account yet. - The results include FTB Interactions and FTB Interactions Remastered. They are separate packs. Press Install on FTB Interactions (the original), which is the one this guide checked.
- If the window has a version dropdown that reads Newest that fits your server, leave it there. That asks for 2.12.2, the newest release.
- Leave Take a backup first ticked and Keep my world, settings and player lists unticked for a fresh start. If every backup slot on your plan is already held by a protected backup, the install stops with "Couldn't start a backup. Free a backup slot, or untick the backup and try again." Delete one backup or remove its protection, then install again.
- Tick Start the server when it's ready only if this server has already accepted the Minecraft EULA. For a Feed The Beast pack the window has no EULA box, so on a new server it will not start itself. Leave it unticked and press Start yourself after the install. Then hold the install button, which reads Hold to Install and reinstall, until it fills.
The install takes about a minute and the console ends with "Pack installed. Launch: -jar forge-1.12.2-14.23.5.2860.jar nogui". CurseForge also lists FTB Interactions, but its newest file there has no server pack attached, so use the Feed The Beast source.
About the pack
The pack page says it was designed to encourage cross-mod interactions, with over 20,000 lines of scripting to remove duplicate materials and blocks, and calls the pack progression and quest driven. Astral Sorcery, Thermal Expansion, Ender IO and Blood Magic play supporting roles to GregTech. The page also says the traditional progression of the mods has been flipped to encourage new playstyles, so point new players at the quest book first.
First start
Press Start on the Console tab and accept the EULA if the panel asks. The server is up when the console prints a line containing For help, type. This pack starts slowly, around three minutes after you press Start, and the console fills with errors from mods such as Ender IO, PlusTiC and Astral Sorcery on the way. The server still finishes starting. Connect to your server for the first time covers adding the address in Minecraft.
Open Players under Essentials and add yourself under Operators with Make operator if you want to run commands. The Config Editor sets Player slots under Players. Restart after saving.
Common problems
- A player cannot join. Check they run FTB Interactions 2.12.2 on Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge, not Remastered.
- The server runs out of memory. Watch the RAM card on the Console tab and the TPS reading in the left rail, then read Why is my server lagging.
- The server crashes at boot. Find and read a crash report shows how to name the mod at fault.
Installing a pack reinstalls your server and replaces its files. Keep Take a backup first ticked if the current world matters to you.
