Set up the FTB Continuum server
Install FTB Continuum 1.7.0 on a Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge server from the Feed The Beast source in the Modpacks tab, with RAM, first start and fixes.
FTB Continuum is an expert-style tech pack from the Feed The Beast team for Minecraft 1.12.2 on Forge. Its page says most recipes and the intended progression of its mods have been changed, with custom quests to guide you through. The Modpacks tab installs this pack from its Feed The Beast source.
Checked against FTB Continuum 1.7.0 (released in October 2020, the newest release) on Forge 14.23.5.2796 and Minecraft 1.12.2, October 2026.
What the pack needs
- Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge 14.23.5.2796 and Java 8. These are the targets Feed The Beast lists for 1.7.0. The panel runs 1.12.2 on Java 8 and picks it for you.
- Memory. The pack page asks for at least 3 GB of RAM and recommends 4 GB. Compare that with your plan using how much RAM a Minecraft server needs and the Minecraft plans.
- The same pack version for players. They install FTB Continuum 1.7.0 in the FTB App, Feed The Beast's launcher. Join a modded server from your launcher has the steps.
Install from the Feed The Beast source
- Open your server and choose Modpacks under Content in the left rail.
- Above the search box, press the Feed The Beast chip and search for
Continuum. Searches need at least three letters. If there is no Feed The Beast chip, that source is not switched on for your account yet. - Press Install on FTB Continuum.
- If the window has a version dropdown that reads Newest that fits your server, leave it there. Feed The Beast lists 1.6.0 and 1.7.0 as releases and 1.6.1 as a beta, and the panel asks for the newest release.
- Leave Take a backup first ticked and Keep my world, settings and player lists unticked for a fresh start. If every backup slot on your plan is already used by a protected backup, the install is refused with "Couldn't start a backup. Free a backup slot, or untick the backup and try again." Delete a backup or remove its protection to make room, or untick Take a backup first when there is nothing on the server to keep.
- Tick Start the server when it's ready only if this server has already accepted the Minecraft EULA. For a Feed The Beast pack the window has no EULA box, so on a new server it will not start itself. Leave it unticked and press Start yourself after the install. Then hold the install button, which reads Hold to Install and reinstall, until it fills.
When the install finishes, the console prints Pack installed. Launch: -jar forge-1.12.2-14.23.5.2796-universal.jar nogui. CurseForge also lists an FTB Continuum, but its newest file there is 1.6.0 from 2019, older than the 1.7.0 that Feed The Beast serves, so use the Feed The Beast source.
What to tell your players
The pack page says the survival difficulty is unchanged apart from the Spice of Life food mod, set up so it is not a burden. The quests are optional, but the page calls them highly suggested because of the large gameplay changes. It adds that the overall goal is to extend play by making large changes to progression throughout the mods, so tell players not to expect the recipes they know.
First start
Press Start on the Console tab and accept the EULA if the panel asks. The server is up when the console prints a line containing For help, type, which reads Done (9.836s)! For help, type "help" or "?" with your own start time in the brackets. Connect to your server for the first time covers adding the address in Minecraft.
Open Players under Essentials and add yourself under Operators with Make operator if you want to run commands. In the Config Editor, Player slots under Players sets how many people can be online at once. Restart after saving.
Common problems
- A player cannot join. Check they run FTB Continuum 1.7.0 on Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge.
- The server runs out of memory. Watch the RAM card on the Console tab and the TPS reading in the left rail, then read Why is my server lagging.
- The server crashes at boot. Find and read a crash report shows how to name the mod at fault.
Installing a pack reinstalls your server and replaces its files. Keep Take a backup first ticked if the current world matters to you.
